Quran Text of Verse 78-92وَ هُوَAnd Heالَّذِیْۤ(is) the One Whoاَنْشَاَproducedلَكُمُfor youالسَّمْعَthe hearingوَ الْاَبْصَارَand the sightوَ الْاَفْـِٕدَةَ ؕand the feelingقَلِیْلًاlittleمَّا(is) whatتَشْكُرُوْنَ you give thanks وَ هُوَAnd Heالَّذِیْ(is) the One Whoذَرَاَكُمْmultiplied youفِیinالْاَرْضِthe earthوَ اِلَیْهِand to Himتُحْشَرُوْنَ you will be gathered وَ هُوَAnd Heالَّذِیْ(is) the One Whoیُحْیٖgives lifeوَ یُمِیْتُand causes deathوَ لَهُand for Himاخْتِلَافُ(is the) alternationالَّیْلِ(of) the nightوَ النَّهَارِ ؕand the dayاَفَلَاThen will notتَعْقِلُوْنَ you reason بَلْNayقَالُوْاthey sayمِثْلَ(the) likeمَا(of) whatقَالَsaidالْاَوَّلُوْنَ the former (people) قَالُوْۤاThey saidءَاِذَاWhat! Whenمِتْنَاwe are deadوَ كُنَّاand becomeتُرَابًاdustوَّ عِظَامًاand bonesءَاِنَّاwould weلَمَبْعُوْثُوْنَ surely be resurrected لَقَدْVerilyوُعِدْنَاwe have been promisedنَحْنُ[we]وَ اٰبَآؤُنَاand our forefathersهٰذَاthisمِنْbeforeقَبْلُbeforeاِنْnotهٰذَاۤ(is) thisاِلَّاۤbutاَسَاطِیْرُ(the) talesالْاَوَّلِیْنَ (of) the former (people) قُلْSayلِّمَنِTo whom (belongs)الْاَرْضُthe earthوَ مَنْand whoeverفِیْهَاۤ(is) in itاِنْifكُنْتُمْyouتَعْلَمُوْنَ know سَیَقُوْلُوْنَThey will sayلِلّٰهِ ؕTo AllahقُلْSayاَفَلَاThen will notتَذَكَّرُوْنَ you remember قُلْSayمَنْWhoرَّبُّ(is the) Lordالسَّمٰوٰتِ(of) the seven heavensالسَّبْعِ(of) the seven heavensوَ رَبُّand (the) Lordالْعَرْشِ(of) the Throneالْعَظِیْمِ the Great سَیَقُوْلُوْنَThey will sayلِلّٰهِ ؕAllahقُلْSayاَفَلَاThen will notتَتَّقُوْنَ you fear (Him) قُلْSayمَنْۢWho is (it)بِیَدِهٖin Whose Hand(s)مَلَكُوْتُ(is the) dominionكُلِّ(of) allشَیْءٍthingsوَّ هُوَand Heیُجِیْرُprotectsوَ لَاand no (one)یُجَارُ(can) be protectedعَلَیْهِagainst HimاِنْIfكُنْتُمْyouتَعْلَمُوْنَ know سَیَقُوْلُوْنَThey will sayلِلّٰهِ ؕAllahقُلْSayفَاَنّٰیThen howتُسْحَرُوْنَ are you deluded 23. Al-Mu'minun Page 348بَلْNayاَتَیْنٰهُمْWe (have) brought themبِالْحَقِّthe truthوَ اِنَّهُمْbut indeed theyلَكٰذِبُوْنَ surely (are) liars مَاNotاتَّخَذَAllah has takenاللّٰهُAllah has takenمِنْanyوَّلَدٍsonوَّ مَاand notكَانَisمَعَهٗwith HimمِنْanyاِلٰهٍgodاِذًاThenلَّذَهَبَsurely (would have) taken awayكُلُّeachاِلٰهٍۭgodبِمَاwhatخَلَقَhe createdوَ لَعَلَاand surely would have overpoweredبَعْضُهُمْsome of themعَلٰی[on]بَعْضٍ ؕothersسُبْحٰنَGlory beاللّٰهِ(to) Allahعَمَّاabove whatیَصِفُوْنَۙthey attribute عٰلِمِKnowerالْغَیْبِ(of) the unseenوَ الشَّهَادَةِand the witnessedفَتَعٰلٰیexalted is Heعَمَّاabove whatیُشْرِكُوْنَ۠they associate

Translation of Verse 78-92

78. And it is He Who has created for you ears and eyes and hearts. Yet you are seldom thankful ! ⁷⁷

79. And it is He who has spread you on the earth, and before Him you will be gathered.

80. And it is He who gives life and death, and His is the alteration of the night and day. Can you not understand ?⁷⁸

81. Nay but they said like what the ancients had said before them.

82. They say : When we are dead and have become (mere) dust and bones, shall we be raised again !

83. We have been already promised this, and before our fore-fathers⁷⁹ (were promised the same). Verily this is nothing but the fables of the ancients.

84. Say: “Whose is the earth and whosoever is therein, if you know?”

85. They will reply: “Allah’s,” Say : “Will you not then be reminded ?”

86. Ask: “Who is the Lord of the seven heavens and the Lord of the Grand Throne (Arsh)?”

87. They will say: “ Allah.”⁸⁰ Say: “ Do you not then fear Him’?”

88. Say: “If you know, tell in whose hands is the sovereignty of all things, protecting all, while against Him there is no protection’?”

89. They will reply: “In Allah’s.” Say: “How then are you so bewitched’?”

90. Nay,but We have brought them the Truth, and they are liars.⁸¹

91. Never has Allah betaken a son,⁸² nor is there any other associate (god) with Him. If it were so, each god would have assuredly gone (separately) with what he created, and some of them would surely have overcome others.⁸³ Immaculate is Allah above all that they say.

92. Knower of the invisible and the visible! Exalted above all that they ascribe as partners to Him!

Commentary

78. That is If you make use of your intelligence properly. you will believe in monotheism and the Hereafter the message for accepting which is being presented by Qur’an.

79. In this statement there is an acknowledgement that the matter about the revival of the dead is not being presented to them for the first time, but they already know it and it was known from before, and their forefathers were promised the same thing. It is obvious that this promise was being made by Prophets Ibrahim and Ismail, generation after generation.

80. From the reply of the polytheists of Makkah it is clear that they were not only believers in the existence of the seven heavens and the Grand Throne (Arsh), but they also believed that Allah was their Lord, and this could be the effect of the teachings of Prophets Ibrahim and Ismail. Even after accepting this basic reality, they believed in polytheism. This was an open contradiction of their belief, but they were not prepared to ponder upon it. And generally it is so that man believes in contradictory things in matters where religion is concerned, while common sense rejects contradictions.

81.These realities which they cannot deny are the clear proof of tawheed, besides being argument for revival of man after death. It is thus clear that the message of Qur’an is the absolute Truth and its deniers are unmitigated liars.

82. This negates the belief of the polytheists that angels are the daughters of God. When God has not made anyone his son, then where is the question of His making some others as His daughters. This also refutes the belief of the Christians that Messiah is the son of God.
