Quran Text of Verse 172-176لَنْNeverیَّسْتَنْكِفَwill disdainالْمَسِیْحُthe Messiahاَنْtoیَّكُوْنَbeعَبْدًاa slaveلِّلّٰهِof Allahوَ لَاand notالْمَلٰٓىِٕكَةُthe Angelsالْمُقَرَّبُوْنَ ؕthe ones who are near (to Allah)وَ مَنْAnd whoeverیَّسْتَنْكِفْdisdainsعَنْfromعِبَادَتِهٖHis worshipوَ یَسْتَكْبِرْand is arrogantفَسَیَحْشُرُهُمْthen He will gather themاِلَیْهِtowards Himجَمِیْعًا all together فَاَمَّاThen as forالَّذِیْنَthose whoاٰمَنُوْاbelievedوَ عَمِلُواand didالصّٰلِحٰتِthe righteous deedsفَیُوَفِّیْهِمْthen He will give them in fullاُجُوْرَهُمْtheir rewardوَ یَزِیْدُهُمْand give them moreمِّنْfromفَضْلِهٖ ۚHis Bountyوَ اَمَّاAnd as forالَّذِیْنَthose whoاسْتَنْكَفُوْاdisdainedوَ اسْتَكْبَرُوْاand were arrogantفَیُعَذِّبُهُمْthen He will punish themعَذَابًا(with) a punishmentاَلِیْمًا ۙ۬painfulوَّ لَاand notیَجِدُوْنَwill they findلَهُمْfor themselvesمِّنْfromدُوْنِbesidesاللّٰهِAllahوَلِیًّاany protectorوَّ لَاand notنَصِیْرًا any helper یٰۤاَیُّهَاOالنَّاسُmankindقَدْSurelyجَآءَكُمْhas come to youبُرْهَانٌa convincing proofمِّنْfromرَّبِّكُمْyour Lordوَ اَنْزَلْنَاۤand We (have) sent downاِلَیْكُمْto youنُوْرًاa lightمُّبِیْنًا clear فَاَمَّاSo as forالَّذِیْنَthose whoاٰمَنُوْاbelievedبِاللّٰهِin Allahوَ اعْتَصَمُوْاand held fastبِهٖto Himفَسَیُدْخِلُهُمْthen He will admit themفِیْinرَحْمَةٍMercyمِّنْهُfrom Himselfوَ فَضْلٍ ۙand Bountyوَّ یَهْدِیْهِمْand will guide themاِلَیْهِto Himselfصِرَاطًا(on) a wayمُّسْتَقِیْمًاؕstraight 4. An-Nisa Page 106یَسْتَفْتُوْنَكَ ؕThey seek your rulingقُلِSayاللّٰهُAllahیُفْتِیْكُمْgives you a rulingفِیconcerningالْكَلٰلَةِ ؕthe Kalalaاِنِifامْرُؤٌاa manهَلَكَdiedلَیْسَ(and) notلَهٗhe hasوَلَدٌa childوَّ لَهٗۤand he hasاُخْتٌa sisterفَلَهَاthen for herنِصْفُ(is) a halfمَا(of) whatتَرَكَ ۚhe leftوَ هُوَAnd heیَرِثُهَاۤwill inherit from herاِنْifلَّمْnotیَكُنْisلَّهَاfor herوَلَدٌ ؕa childفَاِنْBut ifكَانَتَاthere wereاثْنَتَیْنِtwo femalesفَلَهُمَاthen for themالثُّلُثٰنِtwo thirdsمِمَّاof whatتَرَكَ ؕhe leftوَ اِنْBut ifكَانُوْۤاthey wereاِخْوَةًbrothers and sistersرِّجَالًاmenوَّ نِسَآءًand womenفَلِلذَّكَرِthen the male will haveمِثْلُlikeحَظِّshareالْاُنْثَیَیْنِ ؕ(of) the two femalesیُبَیِّنُmakes clearاللّٰهُAllahلَكُمْto youاَنْlestتَضِلُّوْا ؕyou go astrayوَ اللّٰهُAnd Allahبِكُلِّof everyشَیْءٍthingعَلِیْمٌ۠(is) All-Knower

Translation of Verse 172-176

172. The Messiah disdains not that he should be a slave of Allah nor do the angels who are nearest to Him. And whoever disdains his worship and is proud, (the time is not far off when) He will gather them all in His presence.

173. Then, to those who believed and performed deeds of righteousness, He will give their rewards in full, adding to them out of His bounty; and to those who were disdainful and proud, He will punish with a grievous punishment. And they will not find, besides Allah, any protecting friend or helper.

174. O mankind ! There has come to you a convincing proof from your Lord²⁸², and We have sent to you a clear light²⁸³.

175. So those who will believe in Allah and hold fast to Him, soon will He admit them to mercy and grace from Him, and guide them straight way to Himself ²⁸⁴.

176. They ask you for a fatwa²⁸⁵(legal pronouncement ). Say: Allah directs about kalalah²⁸⁶. If a person dies childless and he has a sister²⁸⁷, she shall have half of his inheritance; and (if the sister dies leaving a brother as the survivor then) the brother shall be her heir²⁸⁸, provided the sister was childless. If there are two sisters, they shall have two-thirds of the inheritance²⁸⁹. And if there are several brothers and sisters, then the share of the male shall be twice that of the female.²⁹⁰ Allah clarifies (His commands) for you so that you may not err. And (remember) Allah has knowledge of all things.

Commentary

282. Means Quran, which has a style of appeal that is intellectual and argumentative, and from this point of view it is Allah’s argument and proof against human excuses.

283. This is another characteristic of the holy Quran that it distinguishes between Truth and falsehood, and shows the right way of living.

284. That is: In the Hereafter they will gain nearness to God, which is the goal of guidance. The purport of the verse is that those who will believe in Quran and will hold fast to Allah will be successful in achieving their goal, that is Allah, and this is the greatest gift and blessing that they would get.

285. This verse is a supplement to the commands concerning inheritance which were given in the verses at the beginning of the Surah. The queries concerning inheritance were raised in connection with those commands, and their answers have been added as a supplement at the end of the Surah as an explanation.

286. It shows that the query was about the inheritance of kalalah (a person who has no living father or no living child), about which the directions are given in Verse No.12. (For explanation, please see Note No.34)

287. In Verse No. 12, the shares of uterine brothers and sisters were shown. In this verse the shares of full and consanguine brothers and sisters have been shown.

288. If no one from the Quranic sharers is alive, then the brother will have the whole inheritance, and if some one from the Quranic sharers may be alive, e.g. husband, then after giving his share, the remaining inheritance will go to the brother.

289. Same is the direction for more than two sisters. They will be equal sharers in the two third inheritance.
