Qurayshبِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِیْمِلِاِیْلٰفِFor (the) familiarityقُرَیْشٍۙ(of the) Quraish اٖلٰفِهِمْTheir familiarityرِحْلَةَ(with the) journeyالشِّتَآءِ(of) winterوَ الصَّیْفِۚand summer فَلْیَعْبُدُوْاSo let them worshipرَبَّ(the) Lordهٰذَا(of) thisالْبَیْتِۙHouse الَّذِیْۤThe One Whoاَطْعَمَهُمْfeeds themمِّنْagainstجُوْعٍ ۙ۬hungerوَّ اٰمَنَهُمْand gives them securityمِّنْagainstخَوْفٍ۠fear

Surah Introduction

This Meccan sûrah is viewed as a continuation of the previous one. The general idea is that the Meccan pagans must be grateful and devoted to Allah alone for saving the Ka'bah from the Army of the Elephant. Those who are unfaithful to Allah and unkind to the helpless are criticized in the next sûrah.

Translation of Verse 1-41. In the Name of Allah-the Most Compassionate, Most Merciful.

1. ˹At least˺ for ˹the favour of˺ making Quraysh habitually secure-

2. secure in their trading caravan ˹to Yemen˺ in the winter and ˹Syria˺ in the summer-

3. let them worship the Lord of this ˹Sacred˺ House,

4. Who has fed them against hunger and made them secure against fear. ¹³³⁰

Commentary

1330. Blessing the people of Quraysh with provision and security is probably the answer to Abraham's prayer in 14:35-37.
