Quran Text of Verse 1-2192. Al-Laylبِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِیْمِوَ الَّیْلِBy the nightاِذَاwhenیَغْشٰیۙit covers وَ النَّهَارِAnd the dayاِذَاwhenتَجَلّٰیۙit shines in brightness وَ مَاAnd He Whoخَلَقَcreatedالذَّكَرَthe maleوَ الْاُنْثٰۤیۙand the female اِنَّIndeedسَعْیَكُمْyour effortsلَشَتّٰیؕ(are) surely diverse فَاَمَّاThen as forمَنْ(him) whoاَعْطٰیgivesوَ اتَّقٰیۙand fears وَ صَدَّقَAnd believesبِالْحُسْنٰیۙin the best فَسَنُیَسِّرُهٗThen We will ease himلِلْیُسْرٰیؕtowards [the] ease وَ اَمَّاBut as forمَنْۢ(him) whoبَخِلَwithholdsوَ اسْتَغْنٰیۙand considers himself free from need وَ كَذَّبَAnd deniesبِالْحُسْنٰیۙthe best فَسَنُیَسِّرُهٗThen We will ease himلِلْعُسْرٰیؕtowards [the] difficulty وَ مَاAnd notیُغْنِیْwill availعَنْهُhimمَالُهٗۤhis wealthاِذَاwhenتَرَدّٰیؕhe falls اِنَّIndeedعَلَیْنَاupon Usلَلْهُدٰیؗۖ(is) the guidance وَ اِنَّAnd indeedلَنَاfor Usلَلْاٰخِرَةَ(is) the Hereafterوَ الْاُوْلٰی and the first (life) فَاَنْذَرْتُكُمْSo I warn youنَارًا(of) a Fireتَلَظّٰیۚblazing 92. Al-Layl Page 596لَاNotیَصْلٰىهَاۤwill burn (in) itاِلَّاexceptالْاَشْقَیۙthe most wretched الَّذِیْThe one whoكَذَّبَdeniedوَ تَوَلّٰیؕand turned away وَ سَیُجَنَّبُهَاBut will be removed from itالْاَتْقَیۙthe righteous الَّذِیْThe one whoیُؤْتِیْgivesمَالَهٗhis wealthیَتَزَكّٰیۚpurifying himself وَ مَاAnd notلِاَحَدٍfor anyoneعِنْدَهٗwith himمِنْanyنِّعْمَةٍfavorتُجْزٰۤیۙto be recompensed اِلَّاExceptابْتِغَآءَseekingوَجْهِ(the) Countenanceرَبِّهِ(of) his Lordالْاَعْلٰیۚthe Most High وَ لَسَوْفَAnd soon surelyیَرْضٰی۠he will be pleased

Surah Introduction

This Meccan sûrah emphasizes Allah's power to create and show the Way, the people's ability to choose between good and evil, and the consequences of each route. The fact that the believers will be rewarded to their satisfaction is highlighted in this sûrah (verse 21) and the next (93:5).

Translation of Verse 1-211. In the Name of Allah-the Most Compassionate, Most Merciful.

1. By the night when it covers,

2. and the day when it shines!

3. And by ˹the One˺ Who created male and female!

4. Surely the ends you strive for are diverse.

5. As for the one who is charitable, mindful ˹of

6. and ˹firmly˺ believes in the finest reward,

7. We will facilitate for them the Way of Ease.

8. And as for the one who is stingy, indifferent ˹to Allah˺,

9. and ˹staunchly˺ denies the finest reward,

10. We will facilitate for them the path of hardship.

11. And their wealth will be of no benefit to them when they tumble ˹into Hell˺.

12. It is certainly upon Us ˹alone˺ to show ˹the way to˺ guidance.

13. And surely to Us ˹alone˺ belong this life and the next.

14. And so I have warned you of a raging Fire,

15. in which none will burn except the most wretched-

16. who deny and turn away.

17. But the righteous will be spared from it-

18. who donate ˹some of˺ their wealth only to purify themselves,

19. not in return for someone's favours,

20. but seeking the pleasure of their Lord, the Most High.

21. They will certainly be pleased.
