Al-Infitarبِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِیْمِاِذَاWhenالسَّمَآءُthe skyانْفَطَرَتْۙ(is) cleft asunder وَ اِذَاAnd whenالْكَوَاكِبُthe starsانْتَثَرَتْۙscatter وَ اِذَاAnd whenالْبِحَارُthe seasفُجِّرَتْۙare made to gush forth وَ اِذَاAnd whenالْقُبُوْرُthe gravesبُعْثِرَتْۙare overturned عَلِمَتْWill knowنَفْسٌa soulمَّاwhatقَدَّمَتْit has sent forthوَ اَخَّرَتْؕand left behind یٰۤاَیُّهَاOالْاِنْسَانُman!مَاWhatغَرَّكَhas deceived youبِرَبِّكَconcerning your Lordالْكَرِیْمِۙthe Most Noble الَّذِیْWhoخَلَقَكَcreated youفَسَوّٰىكَthen fashioned youفَعَدَلَكَۙthen balanced you فِیْۤInاَیِّwhateverصُوْرَةٍformمَّاthatشَآءَHe willedرَكَّبَكَؕHe assembled you كَلَّاNay!بَلْButتُكَذِّبُوْنَyou denyبِالدِّیْنِۙthe Judgment وَ اِنَّAnd indeedعَلَیْكُمْover youلَحٰفِظِیْنَۙ(are) surely guardians كِرَامًاNobleكَاتِبِیْنَۙrecording یَعْلَمُوْنَThey knowمَاwhateverتَفْعَلُوْنَ you do اِنَّIndeedالْاَبْرَارَthe righteousلَفِیْ(will be) surely inنَعِیْمٍۚbliss وَ اِنَّAnd indeedالْفُجَّارَthe wickedلَفِیْ(will be) surely inجَحِیْمٍۚۖHellfire یَّصْلَوْنَهَاThey will burn (in) itیَوْمَ(on the) Dayالدِّیْنِ (of) the Judgment وَ مَاAnd notهُمْtheyعَنْهَاfrom itبِغَآىِٕبِیْنَؕ(will be) absent وَ مَاۤAnd whatاَدْرٰىكَcan make you knowمَاwhatیَوْمُ(is the) Dayالدِّیْنِۙ(of) the Judgment ثُمَّThenمَاۤwhatاَدْرٰىكَcan make you knowمَاwhatیَوْمُ(is the) Dayالدِّیْنِؕ(of) the Judgment یَوْمَ(The) Dayلَاnotتَمْلِكُwill have powerنَفْسٌa soulلِّنَفْسٍfor a soulشَیْـًٔا ؕanythingوَ الْاَمْرُand the Commandیَوْمَىِٕذٍthat Dayلِّلّٰهِ۠(will be) with Allah

Surah Introduction

Like the previous sûrah, this Meccan sûrah describes some of the horrors of the Day of Judgment. The disbelievers are criticized for being ungrateful to their Creator. Everyone-including the cheaters mentioned in the next sûrah-will be held accountable for their deeds, which are perfectly recorded by vigilant angels.

Translation of Verse 1-191. In the Name of Allah-the Most Compassionate, Most Merciful.

1. When the sky splits open,

2. and when the stars fall away,

3. and when the seas burst forth,

4. and when the graves spill out,

5. ˹then˺ each soul will know what it has sent forth or left behind.

6. O humanity! What has emboldened you against your Lord, the Most Generous,

7. Who created you, fashioned you, and perfected your design,

8. moulding you in whatever form He willed?

9. But no! In fact, you deny the ˹final˺ Judgment,

10. while you are certainly observed by vigilant,

11. honourable angels, recording ˹everything˺.

12. They know whatever you do.

13. Indeed, the virtuous will be in bliss,

14. and the wicked will be in Hell,

15. burning in it on Judgment Day,

16. and they will have no escape from it.

17. What will make you realize what Judgment Day is?

18. Again, what will make you realize what Judgment Day is?

19. ˹It is˺ the Day no soul will be of ˹any˺ benefit to another whatsoever, for all authority on that Day belongs to Allah ˹entirely˺.
