Quran Text of Verse 1-3108. Al-Kawtharبِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِیْمِاِنَّاۤIndeed, Weاَعْطَیْنٰكَhave given youالْكَوْثَرَؕAl-Kauthar فَصَلِّSo prayلِرَبِّكَto your Lordوَ انْحَرْؕand sacrifice اِنَّIndeedشَانِئَكَyour enemyهُوَhe (is)الْاَبْتَرُ۠the one cut off

Surah Introduction

This Meccan sûrah was revealed to reassure the Prophet ( ﷺ ) . Since the Prophet's sons died in childhood, Al-'Âṣ ibn Wâ ' il, an infamous Meccan pagan, used to say that Muḥammad ( ﷺ ) would be forgotten because he had no son to carry his name. Today, 'Muḥammad' is the most common name in the world, whereas the name of Al-'Âṣ is barely mentioned. The Prophet ( ﷺ ) is ordered to be devoted to Allah alone, which is the underlying theme of the next sûrah.

Translation of Verse 1-31. In the Name of Allah-the Most Compassionate, Most Merciful.

1. Indeed, We have granted you ˹O Prophet˺ abundant goodness. ¹³³²

2. So pray and sacrifice to your Lord ˹alone˺.

3. Only the one who hates you is truly cut off ˹from any goodness˺.

Commentary

1332. This includes a heavenly river as well other favours in both worlds.
