Quran Text of Verse 16-2515. Al-Hijr Page 263وَ لَقَدْAnd verilyجَعَلْنَاWe have placedفِیinالسَّمَآءِthe heavensبُرُوْجًاconstellationsوَّ زَیَّنّٰهَاand We have beautified itلِلنّٰظِرِیْنَۙfor the observers وَ حَفِظْنٰهَاAnd We have protected itمِنْfromكُلِّeveryشَیْطٰنٍdevilرَّجِیْمٍۙaccursed اِلَّاExceptمَنِ(one) whoاسْتَرَقَstealsالسَّمْعَthe hearingفَاَتْبَعَهٗthen follows himشِهَابٌa burning flameمُّبِیْنٌ clear وَ الْاَرْضَAnd the earthمَدَدْنٰهَاWe have spread itوَ اَلْقَیْنَاand [We] castفِیْهَاthereinرَوَاسِیَfirm mountainsوَ اَنْۢبَتْنَاand [We] caused to growفِیْهَاthereinمِنْofكُلِّeveryشَیْءٍthingمَّوْزُوْنٍ well-balanced وَ جَعَلْنَاAnd We have madeلَكُمْfor youفِیْهَاthereinمَعَایِشَmeans of livingوَ مَنْand whomلَّسْتُمْyou are notلَهٗfor himبِرٰزِقِیْنَ providers وَ اِنْAnd notمِّنْ(is) anyشَیْءٍthingاِلَّاbutعِنْدَنَاwith Usخَزَآىِٕنُهٗ ؗ(are) its treasuresوَ مَاand notنُنَزِّلُهٗۤWe send it downاِلَّاexceptبِقَدَرٍin a measureمَّعْلُوْمٍ known وَ اَرْسَلْنَاAnd We have sentالرِّیٰحَthe windsلَوَاقِحَfertilizingفَاَنْزَلْنَاand We sent downمِنَfromالسَّمَآءِthe skyمَآءًwaterفَاَسْقَیْنٰكُمُوْهُ ۚand We gave it to you to drinkوَ مَاۤAnd notاَنْتُمْyouلَهٗof itبِخٰزِنِیْنَ (are) retainers وَ اِنَّاAnd indeed Weلَنَحْنُsurely [We]نُحْیٖWe give lifeوَ نُمِیْتُand We cause deathوَ نَحْنُand Weالْوٰرِثُوْنَ (are) the Inheritors وَ لَقَدْAnd verilyعَلِمْنَاWe knowالْمُسْتَقْدِمِیْنَthe preceding onesمِنْكُمْamong youوَ لَقَدْand verilyعَلِمْنَاWe knowالْمُسْتَاْخِرِیْنَ the later ones وَ اِنَّAnd indeedرَبَّكَyour LordهُوَHeیَحْشُرُهُمْ ؕwill gather themاِنَّهٗIndeed Heحَكِیْمٌ(is) All-Wiseعَلِیْمٌ۠All-Knowing

Translation of Verse 16-25

16. Indeed, We have placed constellations in the sky, and adorned it for all to see.

17. And We protected it from every accursed devil,

18. except the one eavesdropping, who is then pursued by a visible flare. ⁴⁸⁵

19. As for the earth, We spread it out and placed upon it firm mountains, and caused everything to grow there in perfect balance.

20. And We made in it means of sustenance for you and others, who you do not provide for.

21. There is not any means ˹of sustenance˺ whose reserves We do not hold, only bringing it forth in precise measure.

22. We send fertilizing winds, and bring down rain from the sky for you to drink. It is not you who hold its reserves.

23. Surely it is We Who give life and cause death. And We are the ˹Eternal˺ Successor. ⁴⁸⁶

24. We certainly know those who have gone before you and those who will come after ˹you˺.

25. Surely your Lord ˹alone˺ will gather them together ˹for judgment˺. He is truly All-Wise, All-Knowing.

Commentary

485. Some jinn used to eavesdrop on the angels in heaven so they could disclose this information to their human associates. But this practice came to an end when the Prophet ( ﷺ ) was sent with the message of Islam. See 72:8-10.

486. Allah will remain eternally after all pass away.
