Quran Text of Verse 80-99وَ لَقَدْAnd certainlyكَذَّبَdeniedاَصْحٰبُ(the) companionsالْحِجْرِ(of) the Rocky Tractالْمُرْسَلِیْنَۙthe Messengers وَ اٰتَیْنٰهُمْAnd We gave themاٰیٰتِنَاOur Signsفَكَانُوْاbut they wereعَنْهَاfrom themمُعْرِضِیْنَۙturning away وَ كَانُوْاAnd they used (to)یَنْحِتُوْنَcarveمِنَfromالْجِبَالِthe mountainsبُیُوْتًاhousesاٰمِنِیْنَ secure فَاَخَذَتْهُمُBut seized themالصَّیْحَةُthe awful cryمُصْبِحِیْنَۙ(at) early morning فَمَاۤAnd notاَغْنٰیavailedعَنْهُمْthemمَّاwhatكَانُوْاthey used (to)یَكْسِبُوْنَؕearn وَ مَاAnd notخَلَقْنَاWe createdالسَّمٰوٰتِthe heavensوَ الْاَرْضَand the earthوَ مَاand whateverبَیْنَهُمَاۤ(is) between themاِلَّاexceptبِالْحَقِّ ؕin truthوَ اِنَّAnd indeedالسَّاعَةَthe Hourلَاٰتِیَةٌ(is) surely comingفَاصْفَحِSo overlookالصَّفْحَ(with) forgivenessالْجَمِیْلَ gracious اِنَّIndeedرَبَّكَyour LordهُوَHeالْخَلّٰقُ(is) the Creatorالْعَلِیْمُ the All-Knower وَ لَقَدْAnd certainlyاٰتَیْنٰكَWe have given youسَبْعًاsevenمِّنَofالْمَثَانِیْthe oft-repeatedوَ الْقُرْاٰنَand the Quranالْعَظِیْمَ Great لَا(Do) notتَمُدَّنَّextendعَیْنَیْكَyour eyesاِلٰیtowardsمَاwhatمَتَّعْنَاWe have bestowedبِهٖۤwith itاَزْوَاجًا(to) categoriesمِّنْهُمْof themوَ لَاand (do) notتَحْزَنْgrieveعَلَیْهِمْover themوَ اخْفِضْAnd lowerجَنَاحَكَyour wingلِلْمُؤْمِنِیْنَ to the believers وَ قُلْAnd sayاِنِّیْۤIndeed Iاَنَا[I] amالنَّذِیْرُa warnerالْمُبِیْنُۚclear كَمَاۤAsاَنْزَلْنَاWe sent downعَلَیonالْمُقْتَسِمِیْنَۙthose who divided 15. Al-Hijr Page 267الَّذِیْنَThose whoجَعَلُواhave madeالْقُرْاٰنَthe Quranعِضِیْنَ (in) parts فَوَرَبِّكَSo by your Lordلَنَسْـَٔلَنَّهُمْsurely We will question themاَجْمَعِیْنَۙall عَمَّاAbout whatكَانُوْاthey used (to)یَعْمَلُوْنَ do فَاصْدَعْSo proclaimبِمَاof whatتُؤْمَرُyou are orderedوَ اَعْرِضْand turn awayعَنِfromالْمُشْرِكِیْنَ the polytheists اِنَّاIndeed Weكَفَیْنٰكَ[We] are sufficient for youالْمُسْتَهْزِءِیْنَۙ(against) the mockers الَّذِیْنَThose whoیَجْعَلُوْنَset upمَعَwithاللّٰهِAllahاِلٰهًاgodاٰخَرَ ۚanotherفَسَوْفَBut soonیَعْلَمُوْنَ they will come to know وَ لَقَدْAnd verilyنَعْلَمُWe knowاَنَّكَthat [you]یَضِیْقُ(is) straitenedصَدْرُكَyour breastبِمَاby whatیَقُوْلُوْنَۙthey say فَسَبِّحْSo glorifyبِحَمْدِwith the praiseرَبِّكَ(of) your Lordوَ كُنْand beمِّنَofالسّٰجِدِیْنَۙthose who prostrate وَ اعْبُدْAnd worshipرَبَّكَyour Lordحَتّٰیuntilیَاْتِیَكَcomes to youالْیَقِیْنُ۠the certainty

Translation of Verse 80-99

80. Indeed, the residents of the Stone Valley also denied the messengers. ⁴⁹³

81. We gave them Our signs, but they turned away from them.

82. They carved their homes in the mountains, feeling secure.

83. But the ˹mighty˺ blast overtook them in the morning,

84. and all they achieved was of no help to them.

85. We have not created the heavens and the earth and everything in between except for a purpose. And the Hour is certain to come, so forgive graciously.

86. Surely your Lord is the Master Creator, All- Knowing.

87. We have certainly granted you the seven often- repeated verses ⁴⁹⁴ and the great Quran.

88. Do not let your eyes crave the ˹fleeting˺ pleasures We have provided for some of the disbelievers, nor grieve for them. And be gracious to the believers.

89. And say, "I am truly sent with a clear warning"-

90. ˹a warning˺ similar to what We sent to those who divided ˹the Scriptures˺,

91. who ˹now˺ accept parts of the Quran, rejecting others.

92. So by your Lord! We will certainly question them all

93. about what they used to do.

94. So proclaim what you have been commanded, and turn away from the polytheists.

95. Surely We will be sufficient for you against the mockers,

96. who set up ˹other˺ gods with Allah. They will soon come to know.

97. We certainly know that your heart is truly distressed by what they say.

98. So glorify the praises of your Lord and be one of those who ˹always˺ pray,

99. and worship your Lord until the inevitable ⁴⁹⁵ comes your way.

Commentary

493. lit., messengers, because denying Ṣâliḥ ( ﷺ ) was equal to denying all of Allah's messengers.
