Quran Text of Verse 1-1145. Al-Jathiyah Page 49945. Al-Jathiyahبِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِیْمِحٰمٓۚHa Meem تَنْزِیْلُ(The) revelationالْكِتٰبِ(of) the Bookمِنَ(is) fromاللّٰهِAllahالْعَزِیْزِthe All-Mightyالْحَكِیْمِ the All-Wise اِنَّIndeedفِیinالسَّمٰوٰتِthe heavensوَ الْاَرْضِand the earthلَاٰیٰتٍsurely (are) Signsلِّلْمُؤْمِنِیْنَؕfor the believers وَ فِیْAnd inخَلْقِكُمْyour creationوَ مَاand whatیَبُثُّHe dispersesمِنْofدَآبَّةٍ(the) moving creaturesاٰیٰتٌ(are) Signsلِّقَوْمٍfor a peopleیُّوْقِنُوْنَۙwho are certain وَ اخْتِلَافِAnd (in the) alternationالَّیْلِ(of) the nightوَ النَّهَارِand the dayوَ مَاۤand whatاَنْزَلَAllah sends downاللّٰهُAllah sends downمِنَfromالسَّمَآءِthe skyمِنْofرِّزْقٍ(the) provisionفَاَحْیَاand gives lifeبِهِtherebyالْاَرْضَ(to) the earthبَعْدَafterمَوْتِهَاits deathوَ تَصْرِیْفِand (in) directing ofالرِّیٰحِ(the) windsاٰیٰتٌ(are) Signsلِّقَوْمٍfor a peopleیَّعْقِلُوْنَ who reason تِلْكَTheseاٰیٰتُ(are the) Versesاللّٰهِ(of) AllahنَتْلُوْهَاWe recite themعَلَیْكَto youبِالْحَقِّ ۚin truthفَبِاَیِّThen in whatحَدِیْثٍۭstatementبَعْدَafterاللّٰهِAllahوَ اٰیٰتِهٖand His Versesیُؤْمِنُوْنَ will they believe وَیْلٌWoeلِّكُلِّto everyاَفَّاكٍliarاَثِیْمٍۙsinful یَّسْمَعُWho hearsاٰیٰتِ(the) Versesاللّٰهِ(of) Allahتُتْلٰیrecitedعَلَیْهِto himثُمَّthenیُصِرُّpersistsمُسْتَكْبِرًاarrogantlyكَاَنْas ifلَّمْnotیَسْمَعْهَا ۚhe heard themفَبَشِّرْهُSo give him tidingsبِعَذَابٍ(of) a punishmentاَلِیْمٍ painful وَ اِذَاAnd whenعَلِمَhe knowsمِنْofاٰیٰتِنَاOur Versesشَیْـَٔاanythingِ۟اتَّخَذَهَاhe takes themهُزُوًا ؕ(in) ridiculeاُولٰٓىِٕكَThoseلَهُمْfor themعَذَابٌ(is) a punishmentمُّهِیْنٌؕhumiliating مِنْBefore themوَّرَآىِٕهِمْBefore themجَهَنَّمُ ۚ(is) Hellوَ لَاand notیُغْنِیْwill availعَنْهُمْthemمَّاwhatكَسَبُوْاthey had earnedشَیْـًٔاanythingوَّ لَاand notمَاwhatاتَّخَذُوْاthey had takenمِنْbesidesدُوْنِbesidesاللّٰهِAllahاَوْلِیَآءَ ۚ(as) protectorsوَ لَهُمْAnd for themعَذَابٌ(is) a punishmentعَظِیْمٌؕgreat هٰذَاThisهُدًی ۚ(is) guidanceوَ الَّذِیْنَAnd those whoكَفَرُوْاdisbelieveبِاٰیٰتِin (the) Versesرَبِّهِمْ(of) their Lordلَهُمْfor themعَذَابٌ(is) a punishmentمِّنْofرِّجْزٍfilthاَلِیْمٌ۠painful

Surah Introduction

This Meccan sûrah, which takes its name from the kneeling of every faith-community on Judgment Day mentioned in verse 28, is critical of those who turn away from Allah's revelations, deny the Resurrection, ridicule the truth, and fail to appreciate Allah's countless favours and marvels of creation. The dreadful judgment of these deniers is featured in the last part of the sûrah. All these themes are emphasized in the next sûrah as well.

Translation of Verse 1-111. In the Name of Allah-the Most Compassionate, Most Merciful.

1. Ḥâ-Mĩm .

2. The revelation of this Book is from Allah-the Almighty, All-Wise.

3. Surely in ˹the creation of˺ the heavens and the earth are signs for the believers.

4. And in your own creation, and whatever living beings He dispersed, are signs for people of sure faith.

5. And ˹in˺ the alternation of the day and the night, the provision ¹⁰²⁷ sent down from the skies by Allah-reviving the earth after its death-and the shifting of the winds, are signs for people of understanding.

6. These are Allah's revelations which We recite to you ˹O Prophet˺ in truth. So what message will they believe in after ˹denying˺ Allah and His revelations?

7. Woe to every sinful liar.

8. They hear Allah's revelations recited to them, then persist ˹in denial˺ arrogantly as if they did not hear them. So give them good news of a painful punishment.

9. And whenever they learn anything of Our revelations, they make a mockery of it. It is they who will suffer a humiliating punishment.

11. This ˹Quran˺ is ˹true˺ guidance. And those who deny their Lord's revelations will suffer the ˹worst˺ torment of agonizing pain.

Commentary

1027. i.e., rain.
