Quran Text of Verse 16-2950. Qaf Page 519وَ لَقَدْAnd certainlyخَلَقْنَاWe createdالْاِنْسَانَmanوَ نَعْلَمُand We knowمَاwhatتُوَسْوِسُwhispersبِهٖto himنَفْسُهٗ ۖۚhis soulوَ نَحْنُand Weاَقْرَبُ(are) nearerاِلَیْهِto himمِنْthanحَبْلِ(his) jugular veinالْوَرِیْدِ (his) jugular vein اِذْWhenیَتَلَقَّیreceiveالْمُتَلَقِّیٰنِthe two receiversعَنِonالْیَمِیْنِthe rightوَ عَنِand onالشِّمَالِthe leftقَعِیْدٌ seated مَاNotیَلْفِظُhe uttersمِنْanyقَوْلٍwordاِلَّاbutلَدَیْهِwith himرَقِیْبٌ(is) an observerعَتِیْدٌ ready وَ جَآءَتْAnd will comeسَكْرَةُ(the) stuporالْمَوْتِ(of) deathبِالْحَقِّ ؕin truthذٰلِكَThatمَا(is) whatكُنْتَyou wereمِنْهُ[from it]تَحِیْدُ avoiding وَ نُفِخَAnd will be blownفِی[in]الصُّوْرِ ؕthe trumpetذٰلِكَThatیَوْمُ(is the) Dayالْوَعِیْدِ (of) the Warning وَ جَآءَتْAnd will comeكُلُّeveryنَفْسٍsoulمَّعَهَاwith itسَآىِٕقٌa driverوَّ شَهِیْدٌ and a witness لَقَدْCertainlyكُنْتَyou wereفِیْinغَفْلَةٍheedlessnessمِّنْofهٰذَاthisفَكَشَفْنَاSo We have removedعَنْكَfrom youغِطَآءَكَyour coverفَبَصَرُكَso your sightالْیَوْمَtodayحَدِیْدٌ (is) sharp وَ قَالَAnd (will) sayقَرِیْنُهٗhis companionهٰذَاThisمَا(is) whatلَدَیَّ(is) with meعَتِیْدٌؕready اَلْقِیَاThrowفِیْintoجَهَنَّمَHellكُلَّeveryكَفَّارٍdisbelieverعَنِیْدٍۙstubborn مَّنَّاعٍForbidderلِّلْخَیْرِof goodمُعْتَدٍtransgressorمُّرِیْبِۙdoubter ِ۟الَّذِیْWhoجَعَلَmadeمَعَwithاللّٰهِAllahاِلٰهًاa godاٰخَرَanotherفَاَلْقِیٰهُso throw himفِیin(to)الْعَذَابِthe punishmentالشَّدِیْدِ the severe قَالَWill sayقَرِیْنُهٗhis companionرَبَّنَاOur LordمَاۤnotاَطْغَیْتُهٗI made him transgressوَ لٰكِنْbutكَانَhe wasفِیْinضَلٰلٍۭerrorبَعِیْدٍ far قَالَHe will sayلَا(Do) notتَخْتَصِمُوْاdisputeلَدَیَّ(in) My presenceوَ قَدْand indeedقَدَّمْتُI sent forthاِلَیْكُمْto youبِالْوَعِیْدِ the Warning مَاNotیُبَدَّلُwill be changedالْقَوْلُthe wordلَدَیَّwith Meوَ مَاۤand notاَنَاI Amبِظَلَّامٍunjustلِّلْعَبِیْدِ۠to My slaves

Translation of Verse 16-29

16. Indeed, ˹it is˺ We ˹Who˺ created humankind and ˹fully˺ know what their souls whisper to them, and We are closer to them than ˹their˺ jugular vein.

17. As the two recording-angels-˹one˺ sitting to the right, and ˹the other to˺ the left-note ˹everything˺,

18. not a word does a person utter without having a ˹vigilant˺ observer ready ˹to write it down˺. ¹⁰⁸¹

19. ˹Ultimately,˺ with the throes of death will come the truth. ¹⁰⁸² This is what you were trying to escape!

20. And the Trumpet will be blown. ¹⁰⁸³ This is the Day ˹you were˺ warned of.

21. Each soul will come forth with an angel to drive it and another to testify.

22. ˹It will be said to the denier,˺ "You were totally heedless of this. Now We have lifted this veil of yours, so Today your sight is sharp!"

23. And one's accompanying-angel will say, "Here is the record ready with me."

24. ˹It will be said to both angels,˺ "Throw into Hell every stubborn disbeliever,

25. withholder of good, transgressor, and doubter,

26. who set up another god with Allah. So cast them into the severe punishment."

27. One's ˹devilish˺ associate will say, "Our Lord! I did not make them transgress. Rather, they were far astray ˹on their own˺."

28. Allah will respond, "Do not dispute in My presence, since I had already given you a warning.

29. My Word cannot be changed, ¹⁰⁸⁴ nor am I unjust to ˹My˺ creation."

Commentary

1081. The angel to the right records the good deeds of each person, while the one to the left records every evil deed. They always accompany the person at all times, except when one uses the toilet or is intimate with their spouse.

1082. When a denier dies, they will realize that resurrection, judgment, Paradise, and Hell are all true.

1083. This is the second blow which will cause all to come back to life for judgment.

1084. Meaning, the decree to punish wicked humans and jinn ( see 11:119 and 32:13).
