Quran Text of Verse 11-17اَلَمْDo notتَرَyou seeاِلَی[to]الَّذِیْنَthose whoنَافَقُوْا(were) hypocritesیَقُوْلُوْنَsayingلِاِخْوَانِهِمُto their brothersالَّذِیْنَthose whoكَفَرُوْاdisbelievedمِنْamongاَهْلِthe Peopleالْكِتٰبِ(of) the ScriptureلَىِٕنْIfاُخْرِجْتُمْyou are expelledلَنَخْرُجَنَّsurely we will leaveمَعَكُمْwith youوَ لَاand notنُطِیْعُwe will obeyفِیْكُمْconcerning youاَحَدًاanyoneاَبَدًا ۙeverوَّ اِنْand ifقُوْتِلْتُمْyou are foughtلَنَنْصُرَنَّكُمْ ؕcertainly we will help youوَ اللّٰهُAnd Allahیَشْهَدُbears witnessاِنَّهُمْthat theyلَكٰذِبُوْنَ (are) surely liars لَىِٕنْIfاُخْرِجُوْاthey are expelledلَاnotیَخْرُجُوْنَthey will leaveمَعَهُمْ ۚwith themوَ لَىِٕنْand ifقُوْتِلُوْاthey are foughtلَاnotیَنْصُرُوْنَهُمْ ۚthey will help themوَ لَىِٕنْAnd ifنَّصَرُوْهُمْthey help themلَیُوَلُّنَّcertainly they will turnالْاَدْبَارَ ۫(their) backs;ثُمَّthenلَاnotیُنْصَرُوْنَ they will be helped لَاَنْتُمْCertainly you(r)اَشَدُّ(are) more intenseرَهْبَةً(in) fearفِیْinصُدُوْرِهِمْtheir breastsمِّنَthanاللّٰهِ ؕAllahذٰلِكَThatبِاَنَّهُمْ(is) because theyقَوْمٌ(are) a peopleلَّا(who do) notیَفْقَهُوْنَ understand لَاNotیُقَاتِلُوْنَكُمْwill they fight youجَمِیْعًاallاِلَّاexceptفِیْinقُرًیtownsمُّحَصَّنَةٍfortifiedاَوْorمِنْfromوَّرَآءِbehindجُدُرٍ ؕwallsبَاْسُهُمْTheir violenceبَیْنَهُمْamong themselvesشَدِیْدٌ ؕ(is) severeتَحْسَبُهُمْYou think theyجَمِیْعًا(are) unitedوَّ قُلُوْبُهُمْbut their heartsشَتّٰی ؕ(are) dividedذٰلِكَThatبِاَنَّهُمْ(is) because theyقَوْمٌ(are) a peopleلَّاnotیَعْقِلُوْنَۚthey reason كَمَثَلِLike (the) exampleالَّذِیْنَ(of) thoseمِنْfromقَبْلِهِمْbefore themقَرِیْبًاshortlyذَاقُوْاthey tastedوَبَالَ(the) evil resultاَمْرِهِمْ ۚ(of) their affairوَ لَهُمْand for themعَذَابٌ(is) a punishmentاَلِیْمٌۚpainful كَمَثَلِLike (the) exampleالشَّیْطٰنِ(of) the Shaitaanاِذْwhenقَالَhe saysلِلْاِنْسَانِto manاكْفُرْ ۚDisbelieveفَلَمَّاBut whenكَفَرَhe disbelievesقَالَhe saysاِنِّیْIndeed I amبَرِیْٓءٌdisassociatedمِّنْكَfrom youاِنِّیْۤIndeed [I]اَخَافُI fearاللّٰهَAllahرَبَّ(the) Lordالْعٰلَمِیْنَ (of) the worlds 59. Al-Hashr Page 548فَكَانَSo will beعَاقِبَتَهُمَاۤ(the) end of both of themاَنَّهُمَاthat they willفِی(be) inالنَّارِthe Fireخَالِدَیْنِabiding foreverفِیْهَا ؕthereinوَ ذٰلِكَAnd thatجَزٰٓؤُا(is the) recompenseالظّٰلِمِیْنَ۠(of) the wrongdoers

Translation of Verse 11-17

11. Have you ˹O Prophet˺ not seen the hypocrites who say to their fellow disbelievers from the People of the Book, ¹¹⁸⁵ "If you are expelled, we will certainly leave with you, and We will never obey anyone against you. And if you are fought against, we will surely help you."? But Allah bears witness that they are truly liars.

13. Indeed, there is more fear in their hearts for you ˹believers˺ than for Allah. That is because they are a people who do not comprehend.

14. Even united, they would not ˹dare˺ fight against you except ˹from˺ within fortified strongholds or from behind walls. Their malice for each other is intense: you think they are united, yet their hearts are divided. That is because they are a people with no ˹real˺ understanding.

15. They are ˹both just˺ like those who recently went down before them: ¹¹⁸⁶ they tasted the evil consequences of their doings. And they will suffer a painful punishment.

16. ˹They are˺ like Satan when he lures someone to disbelieve. Then after they have done so, he will say ˹on Judgment Day˺, "I have absolutely nothing to do with you. I truly fear Allah-the Lord of all worlds." ¹¹⁸⁷

17. So they will both end up in the Fire, staying there forever. That is the reward of the wrongdoers.

Commentary

1185. Meaning, Banu An-Naḍîr.

1186. This either refers to the defeat of the Meccan pagans at the Battle of Badr or the exile of Banu Qainuqâ'.
