Quran Text of Verse 21-28قَالَSaidنُوْحٌNuhرَّبِّMy Lord!اِنَّهُمْIndeed theyعَصَوْنِیْdisobeyed meوَ اتَّبَعُوْاand followedمَنْ(the one) whoلَّمْ(did) notیَزِدْهُincrease himمَالُهٗhis wealthوَ وَلَدُهٗۤand his childrenاِلَّاexceptخَسَارًاۚ(in) loss وَ مَكَرُوْاAnd they have plannedمَكْرًاa planكُبَّارًاۚgreat وَ قَالُوْاAnd they saidلَا(Do) notتَذَرُنَّleaveاٰلِهَتَكُمْyour godsوَ لَاand (do) notتَذَرُنَّleaveوَدًّاWaddوَّ لَاand notسُوَاعًا ۙ۬Suwaوَّ لَاand notیَغُوْثَYaguthوَ یَعُوْقَand Yauqوَ نَسْرًاۚand Nasr وَ قَدْAnd indeedاَضَلُّوْاthey have led astrayكَثِیْرًا ۚ۬manyوَ لَاAnd notتَزِدِincreaseالظّٰلِمِیْنَthe wrongdoersاِلَّاexceptضَلٰلًا (in) error مِمَّاBecause ofخَطِیْٓـٰٔتِهِمْtheir sinsاُغْرِقُوْاthey were drownedفَاُدْخِلُوْاthen made to enterنَارًا ۙ۬(the) Fireفَلَمْand notیَجِدُوْاthey foundلَهُمْfor themselvesمِّنْfromدُوْنِbesidesاللّٰهِAllahاَنْصَارًا any helpers وَ قَالَAnd saidنُوْحٌNuhرَّبِّMy Lord!لَا(Do) notتَذَرْleaveعَلَیonالْاَرْضِthe earthمِنَanyالْكٰفِرِیْنَ(of) the disbelieversدَیَّارًا (as) an inhabitant اِنَّكَIndeed YouاِنْifتَذَرْهُمْYou leave themیُضِلُّوْاthey will misleadعِبَادَكَYour slavesوَ لَاand notیَلِدُوْۤاthey will begetاِلَّاexceptفَاجِرًاa wickedكَفَّارًا a disbeliever رَبِّMy Lord!اغْفِرْForgiveلِیْmeوَ لِوَالِدَیَّand my parentsوَ لِمَنْand whoeverدَخَلَentersبَیْتِیَmy houseمُؤْمِنًاa believerوَّ لِلْمُؤْمِنِیْنَand believing menوَ الْمُؤْمِنٰتِ ؕand believing womenوَ لَاAnd (do) notتَزِدِincreaseالظّٰلِمِیْنَthe wrongdoersاِلَّاexceptتَبَارًا۠(in) destruction

Translation of Verse 21-28

21. ˹Eventually,˺ Noah cried, "My Lord! They have certainly persisted in disobeying me, and followed ˹instead˺ those ˹elite˺ whose ˹abundant˺ wealth and children only increase them in loss,

22. and who have devised a tremendous plot,

23. urging ˹their followers˺, 'Do not abandon your idols-especially Wadd , Suwâ' , Yaghûth , Ya'ûq , and Nasr .' ¹²⁴¹

24. Those ˹elite˺ have already led many astray. So ˹O Lord˺, only allow the wrongdoers to stray farther away."

25. So because of their sins, they were drowned, then admitted into the Fire. And they found none to help them against Allah.

26. Noah had prayed, "My Lord! Do not leave a single disbeliever on earth.

27. For if You spare ˹any of˺ them, they will certainly mislead

28. My Lord! Forgive me, my parents, and whoever enters my house in faith, and ˹all˺ believing men and women. And increase the wrongdoers only in destruction."

Commentary

1241. These are the names of their main idols. Initially, these idols had been erected to commemorate some righteous people before the time of Noah. After many generations, however, the idols were taken as objects of worship.
