Quran Text of Verse 39-74ثُلَّةٌA companyمِّنَofالْاَوَّلِیْنَۙthe former people وَ ثُلَّةٌAnd a companyمِّنَofالْاٰخِرِیْنَؕthe later people وَ اَصْحٰبُAnd (the) companionsالشِّمَالِ ۙ۬(of) the leftمَاۤwhatاَصْحٰبُ(are the) companionsالشِّمَالِؕ(of) the left فِیْInسَمُوْمٍscorching fireوَّ حَمِیْمٍۙand scalding water وَّ ظِلٍّAnd a shadeمِّنْofیَّحْمُوْمٍۙblack smoke لَّاNotبَارِدٍcoolوَّ لَاand notكَرِیْمٍ pleasant اِنَّهُمْIndeed theyكَانُوْاwereقَبْلَbeforeذٰلِكَthatمُتْرَفِیْنَۚۖindulging in affluence وَ كَانُوْاAnd wereیُصِرُّوْنَpersistingعَلَیinالْحِنْثِthe sinالْعَظِیْمِۚthe great وَ كَانُوْاAnd they used (to)یَقُوْلُوْنَ ۙ۬sayاَىِٕذَاWhenمِتْنَاwe dieوَ كُنَّاand becomeتُرَابًاdustوَّ عِظَامًاand bonesءَاِنَّاwill weلَمَبْعُوْثُوْنَۙsurely be resurrected اَوَ اٰبَآؤُنَاAnd alsoالْاَوَّلُوْنَ our forefathers قُلْSayاِنَّIndeedالْاَوَّلِیْنَthe formerوَ الْاٰخِرِیْنَۙand the later people لَمَجْمُوْعُوْنَ ۙ۬Surely will be gatheredاِلٰیforمِیْقَاتِ(the) appointmentیَوْمٍ(of) a Dayمَّعْلُوْمٍ well-known 56. Al-Waqi'ah Page 536ثُمَّThenاِنَّكُمْindeed youاَیُّهَاO those astrayالضَّآلُّوْنَO those astrayالْمُكَذِّبُوْنَۙthe deniers لَاٰكِلُوْنَWill surely eatمِنْfromشَجَرٍ(the) treeمِّنْofزَقُّوْمٍۙZaqqum فَمَالِـُٔوْنَThen will fillمِنْهَاwith itالْبُطُوْنَۚthe bellies فَشٰرِبُوْنَAnd drinkعَلَیْهِover itمِنَ[from]الْحَمِیْمِۚthe scalding water فَشٰرِبُوْنَAnd will drinkشُرْبَ(as) drinkingالْهِیْمِؕ(of) the thirsty camels هٰذَاThisنُزُلُهُمْ(is) their hospitalityیَوْمَ(on the) Dayالدِّیْنِؕ(of) Judgment نَحْنُWeخَلَقْنٰكُمْ[We] created youفَلَوْ لَاso why (do) notتُصَدِّقُوْنَ you admit the truth اَفَرَءَیْتُمْDo you seeمَّاwhatتُمْنُوْنَؕyou emit ءَاَنْتُمْIs it youتَخْلُقُوْنَهٗۤwho create itاَمْorنَحْنُ(are) Weالْخٰلِقُوْنَ the Creators نَحْنُWeقَدَّرْنَا[We] have decreedبَیْنَكُمُamong youالْمَوْتَthe deathوَ مَاand notنَحْنُWeبِمَسْبُوْقِیْنَۙ(are) outrun عَلٰۤیInاَنْthatنُّبَدِّلَWe (will) changeاَمْثَالَكُمْyour likeness[es]وَ نُنْشِئَكُمْand produce youفِیْinمَاwhatلَاnotتَعْلَمُوْنَ you know وَ لَقَدْAnd certainlyعَلِمْتُمُyou knowالنَّشْاَةَthe creationالْاُوْلٰیthe firstفَلَوْ لَاso why notتَذَكَّرُوْنَ you take heed اَفَرَءَیْتُمْAnd do you seeمَّاwhatتَحْرُثُوْنَؕyou sow ءَاَنْتُمْIs it you (who)تَزْرَعُوْنَهٗۤcause it to growاَمْorنَحْنُ(are) Weالزّٰرِعُوْنَ the Ones Who grow لَوْIfنَشَآءُWe willedلَجَعَلْنٰهُWe (would) surely make itحُطَامًاdebrisفَظَلْتُمْthen you would remainتَفَكَّهُوْنَ wondering اِنَّاIndeed weلَمُغْرَمُوْنَۙsurely are laden with debt بَلْNayنَحْنُweمَحْرُوْمُوْنَ (are) deprived اَفَرَءَیْتُمُDo you seeالْمَآءَthe waterالَّذِیْwhichتَشْرَبُوْنَؕyou drink ءَاَنْتُمْIs it youاَنْزَلْتُمُوْهُwho send it downمِنَfromالْمُزْنِthe rain cloudsاَمْorنَحْنُWeالْمُنْزِلُوْنَ (are) the Ones to send لَوْIfنَشَآءُWe willedجَعَلْنٰهُWe (could) make itاُجَاجًاsaltyفَلَوْ لَاthen why are you not gratefulتَشْكُرُوْنَ then why are you not grateful اَفَرَءَیْتُمُDo you seeالنَّارَthe Fireالَّتِیْwhichتُوْرُوْنَؕyou ignite ءَاَنْتُمْIs it youاَنْشَاْتُمْwho producedشَجَرَتَهَاۤits treeاَمْorنَحْنُWeالْمُنْشِـُٔوْنَ (are) the Producers نَحْنُWeجَعَلْنٰهَاhave made itتَذْكِرَةًa reminderوَّ مَتَاعًاand a provisionلِّلْمُقْوِیْنَۚfor the wayfarers in the desert فَسَبِّحْSo glorifyبِاسْمِ(the) nameرَبِّكَ(of) your Lordالْعَظِیْمِ۠the Most Great

Translation of Verse 39-74

39. ˹who will be˺ a multitude from earlier generations

40. and a multitude from later generations. 3 ) People of the Left

41. And the people of the left-how ˹miserable˺ will they be!

42. ˹They will be˺ in scorching heat and boiling water,

43. in the shade of black smoke,

44. neither cool nor refreshing.

45. Indeed, before this ˹torment˺ they were spoiled by luxury,

46. and persisted in the worst of sin. ¹¹⁶⁰

47. They used to ask ˹mockingly˺, "When we are dead and reduced to dust and bones, will we really be resurrected?

48. And our forefathers as well?"

49. Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ "Most certainly, earlier and later generations

50. will surely be gathered ˹together˺ for the appointed Day.

51. Then you, O misguided deniers,

52. will certainly eat from ˹the fruit of˺ the trees of Zaqqûm , ¹¹⁶¹

53. filling up ˹your˺ bellies with it.

54. Then on top of that you will drink boiling water-

55. and you will drink ˹it˺ like thirsty camels do."

56. This will be their accommodation on the Day of Judgment.

57. It is We Who created you. Will you not then believe ˹in resurrection˺?

58. Have you considered what you ejaculate?

59. Is it you who create ˹a child out of˺ it, or is it We Who do so?

60. We have ordained death for ˹all of˺ you, and We cannot be prevented

61. from transforming and recreating you in forms unknown to you.

62. You already know how you were first created. Will you not then be mindful? 2) Causing Plants to Grow

63. Have you considered what you sow?

64. Is it you who cause it to grow, or is it We Who do so?

65. If We willed, We could simply reduce this ˹harvest˺ to chaff, leaving you to lament,

66. "We have truly suffered a ˹great˺ loss.

67. In fact, we have been deprived ˹of our livelihood˺." 3) Bringing Rain down

68. Have you considered the water you drink?

69. Is it you who bring it down from the clouds, or is it We Who do so?

70. If We willed, We could make it salty. Will you not then give thanks? 4) Producing Fire from Trees

71. Have you considered the fire you kindle? ¹¹⁶²

72. Is it you who produce its trees, or is it We Who do so?

73. We have made it ˹as˺ a reminder ˹of the Hellfire˺ and a provision for the travellers.

74. So glorify the Name of your Lord, the Greatest.

1162. This verse refers to two types of Arabian trees, markh and ' afâr , which produce fire when their green branches are rubbed together.
