Quran Text of Verse 1-1467. Al-Mulk Page 56267. Al-Mulkبِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِیْمِتَبٰرَكَBlessed isالَّذِیْHeبِیَدِهِin Whose Handالْمُلْكُ ؗ(is) the Dominionوَ هُوَand Heعَلٰی(is) overكُلِّeveryشَیْءٍthingقَدِیْرُۙAll-Powerful لَّذِیْThe One Whoخَلَقَcreatedالْمَوْتَdeathوَ الْحَیٰوةَand lifeلِیَبْلُوَكُمْthat He may test youاَیُّكُمْwhich of youاَحْسَنُ(is) bestعَمَلًا ؕ(in) deedوَ هُوَAnd Heالْعَزِیْزُ(is) the All-Mightyالْغَفُوْرُۙthe Oft-Forgiving الَّذِیْThe One Whoخَلَقَcreatedسَبْعَsevenسَمٰوٰتٍheavensطِبَاقًا ؕone above anotherمَاNotتَرٰیyou seeفِیْinخَلْقِ(the) creationالرَّحْمٰنِ(of) the Most Graciousمِنْanyتَفٰوُتٍ ؕfaultفَارْجِعِSo returnالْبَصَرَ ۙthe visionهَلْcanتَرٰیyou seeمِنْanyفُطُوْرٍ flaw ثُمَّThenارْجِعِreturnالْبَصَرَthe visionكَرَّتَیْنِtwice againیَنْقَلِبْWill returnاِلَیْكَto youالْبَصَرُthe visionخَاسِئًاhumbledوَّ هُوَwhile itحَسِیْرٌ (is) fatigued وَ لَقَدْAnd certainlyزَیَّنَّاWe have beautifiedالسَّمَآءَthe heavenالدُّنْیَاnearestبِمَصَابِیْحَwith lampsوَ جَعَلْنٰهَاand We have made themرُجُوْمًا(as) missilesلِّلشَّیٰطِیْنِfor the devilsوَ اَعْتَدْنَاand We have preparedلَهُمْfor themعَذَابَpunishmentالسَّعِیْرِ (of) the Blaze وَ لِلَّذِیْنَAnd for those whoكَفَرُوْاdisbelievedبِرَبِّهِمْin their Lordعَذَابُ(is the) punishmentجَهَنَّمَ ؕ(of) Hellوَ بِئْسَand wretched isالْمَصِیْرُ the destination اِذَاۤWhenاُلْقُوْاthey are thrownفِیْهَاthereinسَمِعُوْاthey will hearلَهَاfrom itشَهِیْقًاan inhalingوَّ هِیَwhile itتَفُوْرُۙboils up تَكَادُIt almostتَمَیَّزُburstsمِنَwithالْغَیْظِ ؕrageكُلَّمَاۤEvery timeاُلْقِیَis thrownفِیْهَاthereinفَوْجٌa groupسَاَلَهُمْwill ask themخَزَنَتُهَاۤits keepersاَلَمْDid notیَاْتِكُمْcome to youنَذِیْرٌ a warner قَالُوْاThey will sayبَلٰیYesقَدْindeedجَآءَنَاcame to usنَذِیْرٌ ۙ۬a warnerفَكَذَّبْنَاbut we deniedوَ قُلْنَاand we saidمَاNotنَزَّلَhas sent downاللّٰهُAllahمِنْanyشَیْءٍ ۖۚthingاِنْNotاَنْتُمْyou (are)اِلَّاbutفِیْinضَلٰلٍerrorكَبِیْرٍ great وَ قَالُوْاAnd they will sayلَوْIfكُنَّاwe hadنَسْمَعُlistenedاَوْorنَعْقِلُreasonedمَاnotكُنَّاwe (would) have beenفِیْۤamongاَصْحٰبِ(the) companionsالسَّعِیْرِ (of) the Blaze فَاعْتَرَفُوْاThen they (will) confessبِذَنْۢبِهِمْ ۚtheir sinsفَسُحْقًاso away withلِّاَصْحٰبِ(the) companionsالسَّعِیْرِ (of) the Blaze اِنَّIndeedالَّذِیْنَthose whoیَخْشَوْنَfearرَبَّهُمْtheir Lordبِالْغَیْبِunseenلَهُمْfor themمَّغْفِرَةٌ(is) forgivenessوَّ اَجْرٌand a rewardكَبِیْرٌ great 67. Al-Mulk Page 563وَ اَسِرُّوْاAnd concealقَوْلَكُمْyour speechاَوِorاجْهَرُوْاproclaimبِهٖ ؕitاِنَّهٗIndeed Heعَلِیْمٌۢ(is the) All-Knowerبِذَاتِof what (is in)الصُّدُوْرِ the breasts اَلَاDoes notیَعْلَمُknowمَنْ(the One) Whoخَلَقَ ؕcreatedوَ هُوَAnd Heاللَّطِیْفُ(is) the Subtleالْخَبِیْرُ۠the All-Aware

Surah Introduction

This Meccan sûrah stresses that Allah's infinite power is manifested through His perfect creation. Those who disbelieve in Allah and deny the Resurrection will be regretful in Hell, whereas those in awe of their Lord will be richly rewarded in Paradise. Allah's absolute authority is contrasted with the powerlessness of false gods. The fact that there is no protection from Allah's torment is emphasized in this sûrah (verses 20, 21, and 30) and the next (68:17-33).

Translation of Verse 1-141. In the Name of Allah-the Most Compassionate, Most Merciful.

1. Blessed is the One in Whose Hands rests all authority. And He is Most Capable of everything.

2. ˹He is the One˺ Who created death and life in order to test which of you is best in deeds. And He is the Almighty, All-Forgiving.

3. ˹He is the One˺ Who created seven heavens, one above the other. You will never see any imperfection in the creation of the Most Compassionate. ¹²¹⁴ So look again: do you see any flaws?

4. Then look again and again-your sight will return frustrated and weary.

5. And indeed, We adorned the lowest heaven with ˹stars like˺ lamps, and made them ˹as missiles˺ for stoning ˹eavesdropping˺ devils, for whom We have also prepared the torment of the Blaze. ¹²¹⁵

6. Those who disbelieve in their Lord will suffer the punishment of Hell. What an evil destination!

7. When they are tossed into it, they will hear its roaring as it boils over,

8. almost bursting in fury. Every time a group is cast into it, its keepers will ask them, "Did a warner not come to you?"

9. They will reply, "Yes, a warner did come to us, but we denied and said, 'Allah has revealed nothing. You are extremely astray.'"

10. And they will lament, "If only we had listened and reasoned, we would not be among the residents of the Blaze!"

11. And so they will confess their sins. So away with the residents of the Blaze!

12. Indeed, those in awe of their Lord without seeing Him ¹²¹⁶ will have forgiveness and a mighty reward.

13. Whether you speak secretly or openly-He surely knows best what is ˹hidden˺ in the heart.

14. How could He not know His Own creation? For He ˹alone˺ is the Most Subtle, All-Aware.

Commentary

1214. Some may point to birth defects, genetic mutations, etc. and say these are flaws. This verse means that, in the grand scheme of creation, everything created has its place, form, and purpose, and that it does exactly what Allah ordained for it.

1216. This can also mean that they are in awe of their Lord as much in private as they are in public.
