Quran Text of Verse 93-103وَ لَقَدْAnd verilyبَوَّاْنَاWe settledبَنِیْۤ(the) Childrenاِسْرَآءِیْلَ(of) Israelمُبَوَّاَ(in) a settlementصِدْقٍhonorableوَّ رَزَقْنٰهُمْand We provided themمِّنَwithالطَّیِّبٰتِ ۚthe good thingsفَمَاand notاخْتَلَفُوْاthey differحَتّٰیuntilجَآءَهُمُcame to themالْعِلْمُ ؕthe knowledgeاِنَّIndeedرَبَّكَyour Lordیَقْضِیْwill judgeبَیْنَهُمْbetween themیَوْمَ(on) the Dayالْقِیٰمَةِ(of) the Resurrectionفِیْمَاconcerning whatكَانُوْاthey used (to)فِیْهِ[in it]یَخْتَلِفُوْنَ differ فَاِنْSo ifكُنْتَyou areفِیْinشَكٍّdoubtمِّمَّاۤof whatاَنْزَلْنَاۤWe have revealedاِلَیْكَto youفَسْـَٔلِthen askالَّذِیْنَthose whoیَقْرَءُوْنَ(have been) readingالْكِتٰبَthe Bookمِنْbefore youقَبْلِكَ ۚbefore youلَقَدْVerilyجَآءَكَhas come to youالْحَقُّthe truthمِنْfromرَّبِّكَyour Lordفَلَاso (do) notتَكُوْنَنَّbeمِنَamongالْمُمْتَرِیْنَۙthe doubters وَ لَاAnd (do) notتَكُوْنَنَّbeمِنَofالَّذِیْنَthose whoكَذَّبُوْاdenyبِاٰیٰتِ(the) Signs of Allahاللّٰهِ(the) Signs of Allahفَتَكُوْنَthen you will beمِنَamongالْخٰسِرِیْنَ the losers اِنَّIndeedالَّذِیْنَthose [whom]حَقَّتْhas become dueعَلَیْهِمْon themكَلِمَتُ(the) Wordرَبِّكَ(of) your Lordلَاwill notیُؤْمِنُوْنَۙbelieve وَ لَوْEven ifجَآءَتْهُمْcomes to themكُلُّeveryاٰیَةٍSignحَتّٰیuntilیَرَوُاthey seeالْعَذَابَthe punishmentالْاَلِیْمَ the painful 10. Yunus Page 220فَلَوْ لَاSo why notكَانَتْwasقَرْیَةٌany townاٰمَنَتْthat believedفَنَفَعَهَاۤand benefited itاِیْمَانُهَاۤits faithاِلَّاexceptقَوْمَthe peopleیُوْنُسَ ؕ(of) YunusلَمَّاۤWhenاٰمَنُوْاthey believedكَشَفْنَاWe removedعَنْهُمْfrom themعَذَابَ(the) punishmentالْخِزْیِ(of) the disgraceفِیinالْحَیٰوةِthe lifeالدُّنْیَاof the worldوَ مَتَّعْنٰهُمْand We granted them enjoymentاِلٰیforحِیْنٍ a time وَ لَوْAnd ifشَآءَ(had) willedرَبُّكَyour Lordلَاٰمَنَsurely (would) have believedمَنْwhoفِی(are) inالْاَرْضِthe earthكُلُّهُمْall of themجَمِیْعًا ؕtogetherاَفَاَنْتَThen will youتُكْرِهُcompelالنَّاسَthe mankindحَتّٰیuntilیَكُوْنُوْاthey becomeمُؤْمِنِیْنَ believers وَ مَاAnd notكَانَisلِنَفْسٍfor a soulاَنْtoتُؤْمِنَbelieveاِلَّاexceptبِاِذْنِby (the) permissionاللّٰهِ ؕ(of) Allahوَ یَجْعَلُAnd He will placeالرِّجْسَthe wrathعَلَیonالَّذِیْنَthose whoلَا(do) notیَعْقِلُوْنَ use reason قُلِSayانْظُرُوْاSeeمَا ذَاwhatفِی(is) inالسَّمٰوٰتِthe heavensوَ الْاَرْضِ ؕand the earthوَ مَاBut notتُغْنِیwill availالْاٰیٰتُthe Signsوَ النُّذُرُand the warnersعَنْtoقَوْمٍa peopleلَّا(who do) notیُؤْمِنُوْنَ believe فَهَلْThen doیَنْتَظِرُوْنَthey waitاِلَّاexceptمِثْلَlikeاَیَّامِthe daysالَّذِیْنَ(of) those whoخَلَوْاpassed awayمِنْbefore themقَبْلِهِمْ ؕbefore themقُلْSayفَانْتَظِرُوْۤاThen waitاِنِّیْindeed, I (am)مَعَكُمْwith youمِّنَamongالْمُنْتَظِرِیْنَ the ones who wait ثُمَّThenنُنَجِّیْWe will saveرُسُلَنَاOur Messengersوَ الَّذِیْنَand those whoاٰمَنُوْاbelieveكَذٰلِكَ ۚThusحَقًّا(it is) an obligationعَلَیْنَاupon Usنُنْجِ(that) We saveالْمُؤْمِنِیْنَ۠the believers

Translation of Verse 93-103

93. Indeed, We settled the Children of Israel in a blessed land, ⁴⁰⁵ and granted them good, lawful provisions. They did not differ until knowledge came to them. ⁴⁰⁶ Surely your Lord will judge between them on the Day of Judgment regarding their differences.

94. If you ˹O Prophet˺ are in doubt about ˹these stories˺ that We have revealed to you, then ask those who read the Scripture before you. The truth has certainly come to you from your Lord, so do not be one of those who doubt,

95. and do not be one of those who deny Allah's signs or you will be one of the losers. ⁴⁰⁷

96. Indeed, those against whom Allah's decree ˹of torment˺ is justified will not believe-

97. even if every sign were to come to them-until they see the painful punishment.

98. If only there had been a society which believed ˹before seeing the torment˺ and, therefore, benefited from its belief, like the people of Jonah. ⁴⁰⁸ When they believed, We lifted from them the torment of disgrace in this world and allowed them enjoyment for a while. ⁴⁰⁹

99. Had your Lord so willed ˹O Prophet˺, all ˹people˺ on earth would have certainly believed, every single one of them! Would you then force people to become believers?

100. It is not for any soul to believe except by Allah's leave, and He will bring His wrath upon those who are unmindful.

101. Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ "Consider all that is in the heavens and the earth!" Yet neither signs nor warners are of any benefit to those who refuse to believe.

102. Are they waiting for ˹anything˺ except the same torments that befell those before them? Say, "Keep waiting then! I too am waiting with you."

103. Then We saved Our messengers and those who believed. For it is Our duty to save the believers.

Commentary

405. In Egypt, Jerusalem, and other places.

406. They did not split into believers and disbelievers until they received the knowledge given to their prophets.

407. When these verses were revealed, the Prophet ( ﷺ ) responded, "I am not in doubt and I will not ask ˹anyone˺."

408. Initially, the people of Jonah rejected his message. When he was told they would be punished after three days for their defiance, he left his city without Allah's permission before its destruction. Jonah's people became convinced that they were going to be destroyed when he left them and they saw signs of the imminent torment, so they felt remorseful and cried out for forgiveness before the coming of the punishment. Therefore, Allah accepted their repentance and the torment was retracted.
