Quran Text of Verse 69-104وَ اتْلُAnd reciteعَلَیْهِمْto themنَبَاَ(the) newsاِبْرٰهِیْمَۘ(of) Ibrahim اِذْWhenقَالَhe saidلِاَبِیْهِto his fatherوَ قَوْمِهٖand his peopleمَاWhatتَعْبُدُوْنَ (do) you worship قَالُوْاThey saidنَعْبُدُWe worshipاَصْنَامًاidolsفَنَظَلُّso we will remainلَهَاto themعٰكِفِیْنَ devoted قَالَHe saidهَلْDoیَسْمَعُوْنَكُمْthey hear youاِذْwhenتَدْعُوْنَۙyou call اَوْOrیَنْفَعُوْنَكُمْ(do) they benefit youاَوْorیَضُرُّوْنَ they harm (you) قَالُوْاThey saidبَلْNayوَجَدْنَاۤbut we foundاٰبَآءَنَاour forefathersكَذٰلِكَlike thatیَفْعَلُوْنَ doing قَالَHe saidاَفَرَءَیْتُمْDo you seeمَّاwhatكُنْتُمْyou have beenتَعْبُدُوْنَۙworshipping اَنْتُمْYouوَ اٰبَآؤُكُمُand your forefathersالْاَقْدَمُوْنَؗۖand your forefathers فَاِنَّهُمْIndeed theyعَدُوٌّ(are) enemiesلِّیْۤto meاِلَّاexceptرَبَّ(the) Lordالْعٰلَمِیْنَۙ(of) the worlds الَّذِیْThe One Whoخَلَقَنِیْcreated meفَهُوَand Heیَهْدِیْنِۙguides me وَ الَّذِیْAnd the One Whoهُوَ[He]یُطْعِمُنِیْgives me foodوَ یَسْقِیْنِۙand gives me drink وَ اِذَاAnd whenمَرِضْتُI am illفَهُوَthen Heیَشْفِیْنِ۪ۙcures me وَ الَّذِیْAnd the One Whoیُمِیْتُنِیْwill cause me to dieثُمَّthenیُحْیِیْنِۙhe will give me life وَ الَّذِیْۤAnd the One WhoاَطْمَعُI hopeاَنْthatیَّغْفِرَHe will forgiveلِیْfor meخَطِیْٓـَٔتِیْmy faultsیَوْمَ(on the) Dayالدِّیْنِؕ(of) the Judgment رَبِّMy Lord!هَبْGrantلِیْ[for] meحُكْمًاwisdomوَّ اَلْحِقْنِیْand join meبِالصّٰلِحِیْنَۙwith the righteous 26. Ash-Shu'ara Page 371وَ اجْعَلْAnd grantلِّیْ[for] meلِسَانَa mentionصِدْقٍ(of) honorفِیamongالْاٰخِرِیْنَۙthe later (generations) وَ اجْعَلْنِیْAnd make meمِنْofوَّرَثَةِ(the) inheritorsجَنَّةِ(of) Garden(s)النَّعِیْمِۙ(of) Delight وَ اغْفِرْAnd forgiveلِاَبِیْۤmy fatherاِنَّهٗIndeed heكَانَisمِنَofالضَّآلِّیْنَۙthose astray وَ لَاAnd (do) notتُخْزِنِیْdisgrace meیَوْمَ(on the) Dayیُبْعَثُوْنَۙthey are resurrected یَوْمَ(The) Dayلَاnotیَنْفَعُwill benefitمَالٌwealthوَّ لَاand notبَنُوْنَۙsons اِلَّاExceptمَنْ(he) whoاَتَیcomesاللّٰهَ(to) Allahبِقَلْبٍwith a heartسَلِیْمٍؕsound وَ اُزْلِفَتِAnd (will be) brought nearالْجَنَّةُthe Paradiseلِلْمُتَّقِیْنَۙfor the righteous وَ بُرِّزَتِAnd (will be) made manifestالْجَحِیْمُthe Hellfireلِلْغٰوِیْنَۙto the deviators وَ قِیْلَAnd it will be saidلَهُمْto themاَیْنَWhereمَا(is) thatكُنْتُمْyou usedتَعْبُدُوْنَۙ(to) worship مِنْBesides AllahدُوْنِBesides Allahاللّٰهِ ؕBesides AllahهَلْCanیَنْصُرُوْنَكُمْthey help youاَوْorیَنْتَصِرُوْنَؕhelp themselves فَكُبْكِبُوْاThen they will be overturnedفِیْهَاinto itهُمْtheyوَ الْغَاوٗنَۙand the deviators وَ جُنُوْدُAnd (the) hostsاِبْلِیْسَ(of) Iblisاَجْمَعُوْنَؕall together قَالُوْاThey (will) sayوَ هُمْwhile theyفِیْهَاin itیَخْتَصِمُوْنَۙ(are) disputing تَاللّٰهِBy Allahاِنْindeedكُنَّاwe wereلَفِیْsurely inضَلٰلٍerrorمُّبِیْنٍۙclear اِذْWhenنُسَوِّیْكُمْwe equated youبِرَبِّwith (the) Lordالْعٰلَمِیْنَ (of) the worlds وَ مَاۤAnd notاَضَلَّنَاۤmisguided usاِلَّاexceptالْمُجْرِمُوْنَ the criminals فَمَاSo (now) notلَنَاwe haveمِنْanyشَافِعِیْنَۙintercessors وَ لَاAnd notصَدِیْقٍa friendحَمِیْمٍ close فَلَوْThen ifاَنَّthatلَنَاwe hadكَرَّةًa returnفَنَكُوْنَthen we could beمِنَofالْمُؤْمِنِیْنَ the believers اِنَّIndeedفِیْinذٰلِكَthatلَاٰیَةً ؕsurely is a Signوَ مَاbut notكَانَareاَكْثَرُهُمْmost of themمُّؤْمِنِیْنَ believers وَ اِنَّAnd indeedرَبَّكَyour Lordلَهُوَsurely Heالْعَزِیْزُ(is) the All-Mightyالرَّحِیْمُ۠ the Most Merciful

Translation of Verse 69-104

69. Relate to them ˹O Prophet˺ the story of Abraham,

70. when he questioned his father and his people, "What is that you worship ˹besides Allah˺?"

71. They replied, "We worship idols, to which we are fully devoted."

72. Abraham asked, "Can they hear you when you call upon them?

73. Or can they benefit or harm you?"

74. They replied, "No! But we found our forefathers doing the same."

75. Abraham responded, "Have you ˹really˺ considered what you have been worshipping-

76. you and your ancestors?

77. They are ˹all˺ enemies to me, except the Lord of all worlds.

78. ˹He is˺ the One Who created me, and He ˹alone˺ guides me.

79. ˹He is˺ the One Who provides me with food and drink.

80. And He ˹alone˺ heals me when I am sick.

81. And He ˹is the One Who˺ will cause me to die, and then bring me back to life.

82. And He is ˹the One˺ Who, I hope, will forgive my flaws ⁷⁵¹ on Judgment Day."

83. "My Lord! Grant me wisdom, and join me with the righteous.

84. Bless me with honourable mention among later generations. ⁷⁵²

85. Make me one of those awarded the Garden of Bliss.

86. Forgive my father, for he is certainly one of the misguided.

87. And do not disgrace me on the Day all will be resurrected-

88. the Day when neither wealth nor children will be of any benefit.

89. Only those who come before Allah with a pure heart ˹will be saved˺." ⁷⁵³

90. ˹On that Day˺ Paradise will be brought near to the God-fearing,

91. and the Hellfire will be displayed to the deviant.

92. And it will be said to them, "Where are those you used to worship

93. besides Allah? Can they help you or even help themselves?"

94. Then the idols will be hurled headlong into Hell, along with the deviant

95. and the soldiers of Iblîs , ⁷⁵⁴ all together.

96. There the deviant will cry while disputing with their idols,

97. "By Allah! We were clearly mistaken,

98. when we made you equal to the Lord of all worlds.

99. And none led us astray other than the wicked.

100. Now we have none to intercede for us,

101. nor a close friend.

102. If only we could have a second chance, then we would be believers."

103. Surely in this is a sign. Yet most of them would not believe.

104. And your Lord is certainly the Almighty, Most Merciful.

Commentary

751. It is reported in an authentic narration collected by At-Tirmiⱬi that Prophet Muḥammad ( ﷺ ) said that Abraham ( ﷺ ) did not tell the full truth only on three different occasions: when he justified his absence from the pagan festival by saying 'I am really sick' ( see 37:89), and when he destroyed the idols and blamed it on the biggest one ( see 21:63), and when he said that Sarah was his sister to save her from a tyrant ruler.

752. On a daily basis, Muslims invoke Allah's blessings upon Prophet Muḥammad ( ﷺ ) and his family and Prophet Abraham ( ﷺ ) and his family, in both obligatory and optional prayers.

753. A pure and sound heart is that of the believer, compared to that of the disbeliever and the hypocrite.

754. Iblîs was the name of Satan before his fall from grace. See footnote for 2:34.
