Quran Text of Verse 68-83وَ مَنْAnd (he) whomنُّعَمِّرْهُWe grant him long lifeنُنَكِّسْهُWe reverse himفِیinالْخَلْقِ ؕthe creationاَفَلَاThen will notیَعْقِلُوْنَ they use intellect وَ مَاAnd notعَلَّمْنٰهُWe taught himالشِّعْرَ[the] poetryوَ مَاand notیَنْۢبَغِیْit is befittingلَهٗ ؕfor himاِنْNotهُوَitاِلَّا(is) exceptذِكْرٌa Reminderوَّ قُرْاٰنٌand a Quranمُّبِیْنٌۙclear لِّیُنْذِرَTo warnمَنْ(him) whoكَانَisحَیًّاaliveوَّ یَحِقَّand may be proved trueالْقَوْلُthe Wordعَلَیagainstالْكٰفِرِیْنَ the disbelievers 36. Ya-Sin Page 445اَوَ لَمْDo notیَرَوْاthey seeاَنَّاthat Weخَلَقْنَا[We] createdلَهُمْfor themمِّمَّاfrom whatعَمِلَتْhave madeاَیْدِیْنَاۤOur handsاَنْعَامًاcattleفَهُمْthen theyلَهَا[for them]مٰلِكُوْنَ (are the) owners وَ ذَلَّلْنٰهَاAnd We have tamed themلَهُمْfor themفَمِنْهَاso some of themرَكُوْبُهُمْthey ride themوَ مِنْهَاand some of themیَاْكُلُوْنَ they eat وَ لَهُمْAnd for themفِیْهَاthereinمَنَافِعُ(are) benefitsوَ مَشَارِبُ ؕand drinksاَفَلَاso (will) notیَشْكُرُوْنَ they give thanks وَ اتَّخَذُوْاBut they have takenمِنْbesidesدُوْنِbesidesاللّٰهِAllahاٰلِهَةًgodsلَّعَلَّهُمْthat they mayیُنْصَرُوْنَؕbe helped لَاNotیَسْتَطِیْعُوْنَthey are ableنَصْرَهُمْ ۙto help themوَ هُمْbut theyلَهُمْfor themجُنْدٌ(are) host(s)مُّحْضَرُوْنَ (who will) be brought فَلَاSo (let) notیَحْزُنْكَgrieve youقَوْلُهُمْ ۘtheir speechاِنَّاIndeed Weنَعْلَمُ[We] knowمَاwhatیُسِرُّوْنَthey concealوَ مَاand whatیُعْلِنُوْنَ they declare اَوَ لَمْDoes notیَرَseeالْاِنْسَانُ[the] manاَنَّاthat Weخَلَقْنٰهُ[We] created himمِنْfromنُّطْفَةٍa sperm-dropفَاِذَاThen behold!هُوَHeخَصِیْمٌ(is) an opponentمُّبِیْنٌ clear وَ ضَرَبَAnd he sets forthلَنَاfor Usمَثَلًاan exampleوَّ نَسِیَand forgetsخَلْقَهٗ ؕhis (own) creationقَالَHe saysمَنْWhoیُّحْیِwill give lifeالْعِظَامَ(to) the bonesوَ هِیَwhile theyرَمِیْمٌ (are) decomposed قُلْSayیُحْیِیْهَاHe will give them lifeالَّذِیْۤWhoاَنْشَاَهَاۤproduced themاَوَّلَ(the) firstمَرَّةٍ ؕtimeوَ هُوَand Heبِكُلِّ(is) of everyخَلْقٍcreationعَلِیْمُۙAll-Knower لَّذِیْThe One Whoجَعَلَmadeلَكُمْfor youمِّنَfromالشَّجَرِthe treeالْاَخْضَرِ[the] greenنَارًاfireفَاِذَاۤand behold!اَنْتُمْYouمِّنْهُfrom itتُوْقِدُوْنَ ignite اَوَ لَیْسَIs it notالَّذِیْ(He) Whoخَلَقَcreatedالسَّمٰوٰتِthe heavensوَ الْاَرْضَand the earthبِقٰدِرٍAbleعَلٰۤیtoاَنْ[that]یَّخْلُقَcreateمِثْلَهُمْ ؔؕ(the) like of themبَلٰی ۗYes indeed!وَ هُوَand Heالْخَلّٰقُ(is) the Supreme Creatorالْعَلِیْمُ the All-Knower اِنَّمَاۤOnlyاَمْرُهٗۤHis CommandاِذَاۤwhenاَرَادَHe intendsشَیْـًٔاa thingاَنْthatیَّقُوْلَHe saysلَهٗto itكُنْBeفَیَكُوْنُ and it is فَسُبْحٰنَSo glorified beالَّذِیْ(He) Whoبِیَدِهٖin Whose handمَلَكُوْتُis (the) dominionكُلِّ(of) allشَیْءٍthingsوَّ اِلَیْهِand to Himتُرْجَعُوْنَ۠you will be returned

Translation of Verse 68-83

68. And whoever We grant a long life, We reverse them in development. ⁹⁰⁶ Will they not then understand?

69. We have not taught him poetry, nor is it fitting for him. This ˹Book˺ is only a Reminder and a clear Quran

70. to warn whoever is ˹truly˺ alive and fulfil the decree ˹of torment˺ against the disbelievers.

71. Do they not see that We singlehandedly ⁹⁰⁷ created for them, among other things, cattle which are under their control?

72. And We have subjected these ˹animals˺ to them, so they may ride some and eat others.

73. And they derive from them other benefits and drinks. Will they not then give thanks?

74. Still they have taken other gods besides Allah, hoping to be helped ˹by them˺.

75. They cannot help the pagans, even though they serve the idols as dedicated guards. ⁹⁰⁸

76. So do not let their words grieve you ˹O Prophet˺. Indeed, We ˹fully˺ know what they conceal and what they reveal.

77. Do people not see that We have created them from a sperm- drop, then-behold!-they openly challenge ˹Us˺?

78. And they argue with Us-forgetting they were created-saying, "Who will give life to decayed bones?"

79. Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ "They will be revived by the One Who produced them the first time, for He has ˹perfect˺ knowledge of every created being.

80. ˹He is the One˺ Who gives you fire from green trees, and-behold!-you kindle ˹fire˺ from them. ⁹⁰⁹

81. Can the One Who created the heavens and the earth not ˹easily˺ resurrect these ˹deniers˺?" Yes ˹He can˺! For He is the Master Creator, All-Knowing.

82. All it takes, when He wills something ˹to be˺, is simply to say to it: "Be!" And it is!

83. So glory be to the One in Whose Hands is the authority over all things, and to Whom ˹alone˺ you will ˹all˺ be returned.

Commentary

906. Human beings are born weak, then they reach their prime, then they grow weak after a certain age. See 30:54.

907. lit., 'what Our Own Hands have created.'

908. Another meaning is that those idols will be assembled to witness the torment of their worshippers on Judgment Day.

909. The verse refers to two types of Arabian trees, markh and ' afâr , which produce fire when their green branches are rubbed together.
