Muhammad Page 509وَ یَقُوْلُAnd sayالَّذِیْنَthose whoاٰمَنُوْاbelieveلَوْ لَاWhy notنُزِّلَتْhas been revealedسُوْرَةٌ ۚa SurahفَاِذَاۤBut whenاُنْزِلَتْis revealedسُوْرَةٌa Surahمُّحْكَمَةٌpreciseوَّ ذُكِرَand is mentionedفِیْهَاin itالْقِتَالُ ۙthe fightingرَاَیْتَyou seeالَّذِیْنَthose whoفِیْinقُلُوْبِهِمْtheir heartsمَّرَضٌ(is) a diseaseیَّنْظُرُوْنَlookingاِلَیْكَat youنَظَرَa lookالْمَغْشِیِّ(of) one faintingعَلَیْهِ(of) one faintingمِنَfromالْمَوْتِ ؕthe deathفَاَوْلٰیBut more appropriateلَهُمْۚfor them طَاعَةٌ(Is) obedienceوَّ قَوْلٌand a wordمَّعْرُوْفٌ ۫kindفَاِذَاAnd whenعَزَمَ(is) determinedالْاَمْرُ ۫the matterفَلَوْthen ifصَدَقُواthey had been trueاللّٰهَ(to) Allahلَكَانَsurely it would have beenخَیْرًاbetterلَّهُمْۚfor them فَهَلْThen wouldعَسَیْتُمْyou perhapsاِنْifتَوَلَّیْتُمْyou are given authorityاَنْthatتُفْسِدُوْاyou cause corruptionفِیinالْاَرْضِthe earthوَ تُقَطِّعُوْۤاand cut offاَرْحَامَكُمْ your ties of kinship اُولٰٓىِٕكَThoseالَّذِیْنَ(are) the onesلَعَنَهُمُAllah has cursed themاللّٰهُAllah has cursed themفَاَصَمَّهُمْso He made them deafوَ اَعْمٰۤیand blindedاَبْصَارَهُمْ their vision اَفَلَاThen do notیَتَدَبَّرُوْنَthey ponderالْقُرْاٰنَ(over) the Quranاَمْorعَلٰیuponقُلُوْبٍ(their) heartsاَقْفَالُهَا (are) locks اِنَّIndeedالَّذِیْنَthose whoارْتَدُّوْاreturnعَلٰۤیonاَدْبَارِهِمْtheir backsمِّنْۢafterبَعْدِafterمَاwhatتَبَیَّنَ(has) become clearلَهُمُto themالْهُدَی ۙthe guidanceالشَّیْطٰنُShaitaanسَوَّلَenticedلَهُمْ ؕ[for] themوَ اَمْلٰیand prolonged hopeلَهُمْ for them ذٰلِكَThatبِاَنَّهُمْ(is) because theyقَالُوْا[they] saidلِلَّذِیْنَto those whoكَرِهُوْاhateمَاwhatنَزَّلَAllah has revealedاللّٰهُAllah has revealedسَنُطِیْعُكُمْWe will obey youفِیْinبَعْضِpartالْاَمْرِ ۖۚ(of) the matterوَ اللّٰهُBut Allahیَعْلَمُknowsاِسْرَارَهُمْ their secrets فَكَیْفَThen howاِذَاwhenتَوَفَّتْهُمُtake them in deathالْمَلٰٓىِٕكَةُthe Angelsیَضْرِبُوْنَstrikingوُجُوْهَهُمْtheir facesوَ اَدْبَارَهُمْ and their backs ذٰلِكَThatبِاَنَّهُمُ(is) because theyاتَّبَعُوْاfollowedمَاۤwhatاَسْخَطَangeredاللّٰهَAllahوَ كَرِهُوْاand hatedرِضْوَانَهٗHis pleasureفَاَحْبَطَso He made worthlessاَعْمَالَهُمْ۠their deeds

Translation of Verse 20-28

20. And the believers say, "If only a sûrah was revealed ˹allowing self-defence˺!" Yet when a precise sûrah is revealed, in which fighting is ˹explicitly˺ mentioned, you see those with sickness in their hearts staring at you like someone in the throes of death. It would have been better for them

21. to obey and speak rightly. Then when fighting was ordained, it surely would have been better for them if they were true to Allah.

22. Now if you ˹hypocrites˺ turn away, perhaps you would then spread corruption throughout the land and sever your ˹ties of˺ kinship! ¹⁰⁴⁴

23. These are the ones who Allah has condemned, deafening them and blinding their eyes.

24. Do they not then reflect on the Quran? Or are there locks upon their hearts?

25. Indeed, those who relapse ˹into disbelief˺ after ˹true˺ guidance has become clear to them, ˹it is˺ Satan ˹that˺ has tempted them, luring them with false hopes.

26. That is because they said ˹privately˺ to those who ˹also˺ detest what Allah has revealed, "We will obey you in some matters." ¹⁰⁴⁵ But Allah ˹fully˺ knows what they are hiding.

27. Then how ˹horrible˺ will it be when the angels take their souls, beating their faces and backs!

28. This is because they follow whatever displeases Allah and hate whatever pleases Him, so He has rendered their deeds void.

1044. As you did before Islam.
