Quran Text of Verse 10-20اِنَّIndeedالَّذِیْنَthose whoكَفَرُوْاdisbelievedیُنَادَوْنَwill be cried out to themلَمَقْتُ(Allah's) hatredاللّٰهِAllah's (hatred)اَكْبَرُ(was) greaterمِنْthanمَّقْتِكُمْyour hatredاَنْفُسَكُمْ(of) yourselvesاِذْwhenتُدْعَوْنَyou were calledاِلَیtoالْاِیْمَانِthe faithفَتَكْفُرُوْنَ and you disbelieved قَالُوْاThey (will) sayرَبَّنَاۤOur Lord!اَمَتَّنَاYou gave us deathاثْنَتَیْنِtwiceوَ اَحْیَیْتَنَاand You gave us lifeاثْنَتَیْنِtwiceفَاعْتَرَفْنَاand we confessبِذُنُوْبِنَاour sinsفَهَلْSo is (there)اِلٰیtoخُرُوْجٍget outمِّنْanyسَبِیْلٍ way ذٰلِكُمْThatبِاَنَّهٗ(is) becauseاِذَاwhenدُعِیَAllah was invokedاللّٰهُAllah was invokedوَحْدَهٗAloneكَفَرْتُمْ ۚyou disbelievedوَ اِنْbut ifیُّشْرَكْ(others) were associatedبِهٖwith Himتُؤْمِنُوْا ؕyou believedفَالْحُكْمُSo the judgmentلِلّٰهِ(is) with Allahالْعَلِیِّthe Most Highالْكَبِیْرِ the Most Great هُوَHeالَّذِیْ(is) the One Whoیُرِیْكُمْshows youاٰیٰتِهٖHis Signsوَ یُنَزِّلُand sends downلَكُمْfor youمِّنَfromالسَّمَآءِthe skyرِزْقًا ؕprovisionوَ مَاBut (does) notیَتَذَكَّرُtake heedاِلَّاexceptمَنْ(one) whoیُّنِیْبُ turns فَادْعُواSo invokeاللّٰهَAllahمُخْلِصِیْنَ(being) sincereلَهُto Himالدِّیْنَ(in) the religionوَ لَوْeven thoughكَرِهَdislike (it)الْكٰفِرُوْنَ the disbelievers رَفِیْعُPossessor of the Highest RanksالدَّرَجٰتِPossessor of the Highest RanksذُوOwner ofالْعَرْشِ ۚthe ThroneیُلْقِیHe placesالرُّوْحَthe inspirationمِنْbyاَمْرِهٖHis CommandعَلٰیuponمَنْwhomیَّشَآءُHe willsمِنْofعِبَادِهٖHis slavesلِیُنْذِرَto warnیَوْمَ(of the) Dayالتَّلَاقِۙ(of) the Meeting یَوْمَ(The) Dayهُمْtheyبٰرِزُوْنَ ۚ۬come forthلَاnotیَخْفٰیis hiddenعَلَیfromاللّٰهِAllahمِنْهُمْabout themشَیْءٌ ؕanythingلِمَنِFor whomالْمُلْكُ(is) the Dominionالْیَوْمَ ؕthis DayلِلّٰهِFor Allahالْوَاحِدِthe Oneالْقَهَّارِ the Irresistible 40. Ghafir Page 469اَلْیَوْمَThis Dayتُجْزٰیwill be recompensedكُلُّeveryنَفْسٍۭsoulبِمَاfor whatكَسَبَتْ ؕit earnedلَاNoظُلْمَinjusticeالْیَوْمَ ؕtoday!اِنَّIndeedاللّٰهَAllahسَرِیْعُ(is) Swiftالْحِسَابِ (in) Account وَ اَنْذِرْهُمْAnd warn themیَوْمَ(of the) Dayالْاٰزِفَةِthe Approachingاِذِwhenالْقُلُوْبُthe heartsلَدَی(are) atالْحَنَاجِرِthe throatsكٰظِمِیْنَ ؕ۬chokedمَاNotلِلظّٰلِمِیْنَfor the wrongdoersمِنْanyحَمِیْمٍintimate friendوَّ لَاand noشَفِیْعٍintercessorیُّطَاعُؕ(who) is obeyed یَعْلَمُHe knowsخَآىِٕنَةَ(the) stealthy glanceالْاَعْیُنِ(the) stealthy glanceوَ مَاand whatتُخْفِیconcealالصُّدُوْرُ the breasts وَ اللّٰهُAnd Allahیَقْضِیْjudgesبِالْحَقِّ ؕin truthوَ الَّذِیْنَwhile those (whom)یَدْعُوْنَthey invokeمِنْbesides Himدُوْنِهٖbesides Himلَاnotیَقْضُوْنَthey judgeبِشَیْءٍ ؕwith anythingاِنَّIndeedاللّٰهَAllahهُوَHeالسَّمِیْعُ(is) the All-Hearerالْبَصِیْرُ۠the All-Seer

Translation of Verse 10-20

10. Indeed, it will be announced to the disbelievers, "Allah's contempt for you-as you disbelieved when invited to belief-was far worse than your contempt for one another ˹Today˺."

11. They will plead, "Our Lord! You made us lifeless twice, and gave us life twice. ⁹⁶⁷ Now we confess our sins. So is there any way out?"

12. ˹They will be told,˺ "˹No!˺ This is because when Allah alone was invoked, you ˹staunchly˺ disbelieved. But when others were associated with

13. He is the One Who shows you His signs and sends down ˹rain as˺ a provision for you from the sky. ˹But˺ none will be mindful except those who turn ˹to Him˺.

14. So call upon Allah with sincere devotion, even to the dismay of the disbelievers.

15. ˹He is˺ Highly Exalted in rank, Lord of the Throne. He sends down the revelation by His command to whoever He wills of His servants to warn ˹all˺ of the Day of Meeting-

16. the Day all will appear ˹before Allah˺. Nothing about them will be hidden from Him. ˹He will ask,˺ "Who does all authority belong to this Day? To Allah-the One, the Supreme! ⁹⁶⁸

17. Today every soul will be rewarded for what it has done. No injustice Today! Surely Allah is swift in reckoning."

18. Warn them ˹O Prophet˺ of the approaching Day when the hearts will jump into the throats, suppressing distress. The wrongdoers will have neither a close friend nor intercessor to be heard.

19. Allah ˹even˺ knows the sly glances of the eyes and whatever the hearts conceal.

20. And Allah judges with the truth, while those ˹idols˺ they invoke besides Him cannot judge at all. Indeed, Allah ˹alone˺ is the All-Hearing, All-Seeing.

Commentary

967. You created us from nothing, then gave us life in the wombs of our mothers, then caused us to die at the end of our worldly lives, and finally resurrected us after our death ( see 2:28).

968. It is reported in a ḥadîth collected by Imâm Muslim that everyone and everything that has ever existed will die on that Day, except for Allah-the Eternal. He will then ask, "Who does all authority belong to this Day? Where are the kings of the world? I am the King." Since no one will be there to answer, Allah will answer Himself, "˹All authority belongs˺ to Allah-the One, the Supreme!"
