Quran Text of Verse 79-85اَللّٰهُAllahالَّذِیْ(is) the One Whoجَعَلَmadeلَكُمُfor youالْاَنْعَامَthe cattleلِتَرْكَبُوْاthat you may rideمِنْهَاsome of themوَ مِنْهَاand some of themتَاْكُلُوْنَؗyou eat وَ لَكُمْAnd for youفِیْهَاin themمَنَافِعُ(are) benefitsوَ لِتَبْلُغُوْاand that you may reachعَلَیْهَاthrough themحَاجَةًa needفِیْ(that is) inصُدُوْرِكُمْyour breastsوَ عَلَیْهَاand upon themوَ عَلَیand uponالْفُلْكِthe shipsتُحْمَلُوْنَؕyou are carried وَ یُرِیْكُمْAnd He shows youاٰیٰتِهٖ ۖۗHis SignsفَاَیَّThen whichاٰیٰتِ(of the) Signsاللّٰهِ(of) Allahتُنْكِرُوْنَ will you deny اَفَلَمْDo they notیَسِیْرُوْاtravelفِیthroughالْاَرْضِthe landفَیَنْظُرُوْاand seeكَیْفَhowكَانَwasعَاقِبَةُ(the) endالَّذِیْنَ(of) those whoمِنْ(were) before themقَبْلِهِمْ ؕ(were) before themكَانُوْۤاThey wereاَكْثَرَmore numerousمِنْهُمْthan themوَ اَشَدَّand mightierقُوَّةً(in) strengthوَّ اٰثَارًاand impressionsفِیinالْاَرْضِthe landفَمَاۤbut notاَغْنٰیavailedعَنْهُمْthemمَّاwhatكَانُوْاthey used (to)یَكْسِبُوْنَ earn فَلَمَّاThen whenجَآءَتْهُمْcame to themرُسُلُهُمْtheir Messengersبِالْبَیِّنٰتِwith clear proofsفَرِحُوْاthey rejoicedبِمَاin whatعِنْدَهُمْthey hadمِّنَofالْعِلْمِthe knowledgeوَ حَاقَand envelopedبِهِمْthemمَّاwhatكَانُوْاthey used (to)بِهٖ[at it]یَسْتَهْزِءُوْنَ mock فَلَمَّاSo whenرَاَوْاthey sawبَاْسَنَاOur punishmentقَالُوْۤاthey saidاٰمَنَّاWe believeبِاللّٰهِin AllahوَحْدَهٗAloneوَ كَفَرْنَاand we disbelieveبِمَاin whatكُنَّاwe used (to)بِهٖwith Himمُشْرِكِیْنَ associate فَلَمْBut did notیَكُBut did notیَنْفَعُهُمْbenefit themاِیْمَانُهُمْtheir faithلَمَّاwhenرَاَوْاthey sawبَاْسَنَا ؕOur punishmentسُنَّتَ(Such is the) Wayاللّٰهِ(of) Allahالَّتِیْwhichقَدْ(has) indeedخَلَتْprecededفِیْamongعِبَادِهٖ ۚHis slavesوَ خَسِرَAnd are lostهُنَالِكَthereالْكٰفِرُوْنَ۠the disbelievers

Translation of Verse 79-85

79. It is Allah Who made cattle for you so that you may ride some and eat others.

80. Also, you find in them ˹other˺ benefits. ⁹⁷⁹ And by means of them you may reach destinations you desire. And you are carried upon ˹some of˺ them and upon ships.

81. And He shows you His signs. Now which of Allah's signs will you deny?

82. Have they not travelled throughout the land to see what was the end of those who were ˹destroyed˺ before them? They were far superior in might and ˹richer in˺ monuments throughout the land, but their ˹worldly˺ gains were of no benefit to them.

83. When their messengers came to them with clear proofs, they were prideful in whatever ˹worldly˺ knowledge they had, ⁹⁸⁰ and were ˹ultimately˺ overwhelmed by what they used to ridicule.

84. When they saw Our punishment, they cried, "˹Now˺ we believe in Allah alone and reject what we had been associating with Him!"

85. But their faith was of no benefit to them when they saw Our torment. This has ˹always˺ been Allah's way ˹of dealing˺ with His ˹wicked˺ servants. Then and there the disbelievers were in ˹total˺ loss.

Commentary

979. i.e., milk, wool, and hide.

980. And ridiculed the divine knowledge brought to them by their messengers.
