Quran Text of Verse 181-1873. Ali 'Imran Page 74لَقَدْCertainlyسَمِعَheardاللّٰهُAllahقَوْلَ(the) sayingالَّذِیْنَ(of) those whoقَالُوْۤاsaidاِنَّIndeedاللّٰهَAllahفَقِیْرٌ(is) poorوَّ نَحْنُwhile weاَغْنِیَآءُ ۘ(are) richسَنَكْتُبُWe will recordمَاwhatقَالُوْاthey saidوَ قَتْلَهُمُand their killingالْاَنْۢبِیَآءَthe Prophetsبِغَیْرِwithoutحَقٍّ ۙ(any) rightوَّ نَقُوْلُand We will sayذُوْقُوْاTasteعَذَابَ(the) punishmentالْحَرِیْقِ (of) the Burning Fire ذٰلِكَThatبِمَا(is) becauseقَدَّمَتْ(of what) sent forthاَیْدِیْكُمْyour handsوَ اَنَّand thatاللّٰهَAllahلَیْسَis notبِظَلَّامٍunjustلِّلْعَبِیْدِۚto (His) slaves اَلَّذِیْنَThose whoقَالُوْۤاsaidاِنَّIndeedاللّٰهَAllahعَهِدَ(has) taken promiseاِلَیْنَاۤfrom usاَلَّاthat notنُؤْمِنَwe (should) believeلِرَسُوْلٍin a Messengerحَتّٰیuntilیَاْتِیَنَاhe brings to usبِقُرْبَانٍa sacrificeتَاْكُلُهُconsumes itالنَّارُ ؕthe fireقُلْSayقَدْSurelyجَآءَكُمْcame to youرُسُلٌMessengersمِّنْfromقَبْلِیْbefore meبِالْبَیِّنٰتِwith the clear Signsوَ بِالَّذِیْand with whatقُلْتُمْyou speakفَلِمَSo whyقَتَلْتُمُوْهُمْyou killed themاِنْifكُنْتُمْyou areصٰدِقِیْنَ truthful فَاِنْThen ifكَذَّبُوْكَthey reject youفَقَدْthen certainlyكُذِّبَwere rejectedرُسُلٌMessengersمِّنْfromقَبْلِكَbefore youجَآءُوْ(who) cameبِالْبَیِّنٰتِwith the clear Signsوَ الزُّبُرِand the Scripturesوَ الْكِتٰبِand the Bookالْمُنِیْرِ [the] Enlightening كُلُّEveryنَفْسٍsoulذَآىِٕقَةُ(will) tasteالْمَوْتِ ؕ[the] deathوَ اِنَّمَاand onlyتُوَفَّوْنَyou will be paid in fullاُجُوْرَكُمْyour rewardیَوْمَ(on the) Dayالْقِیٰمَةِ ؕ(of) [the] ResurrectionفَمَنْThen whoeverزُحْزِحَis drawn awayعَنِfromالنَّارِthe Fireوَ اُدْخِلَand admittedالْجَنَّةَ(to) Paradiseفَقَدْthen surelyفَازَ ؕhe is successfulوَ مَاAnd notالْحَیٰوةُ(is) the lifeالدُّنْیَاۤ(of) the worldاِلَّاexceptمَتَاعُenjoymentالْغُرُوْرِ (of) delusion لَتُبْلَوُنَّYou will certainly be testedفِیْۤinاَمْوَالِكُمْyour wealthوَاَنْفُسِكُمْ ۫and yourselvesوَ لَتَسْمَعُنَّAnd you will certainly hearمِنَfromالَّذِیْنَthose whoاُوْتُواwere givenالْكِتٰبَthe Bookمِنْfromقَبْلِكُمْbefore youوَ مِنَand fromالَّذِیْنَthose whoاَشْرَكُوْۤاassociate partners with Allahاَذًیhurtful thingsكَثِیْرًا ؕmanyوَ اِنْand ifتَصْبِرُوْاyou are patientوَ تَتَّقُوْاand fear (Allah)فَاِنَّthen indeedذٰلِكَthatمِنْ(is) ofعَزْمِthe mattersالْاُمُوْرِ (of) determination 3. Ali 'Imran Page 75وَ اِذْAnd whenاَخَذَtookاللّٰهُAllahمِیْثَاقَa Covenantالَّذِیْنَ(from) those whoاُوْتُواwere givenالْكِتٰبَthe BookلَتُبَیِّنُنَّهٗYou certainly make it clearلِلنَّاسِto the mankindوَ لَاand (do) notتَكْتُمُوْنَهٗ ؗconceal itفَنَبَذُوْهُThen they threw itوَرَآءَbehindظُهُوْرِهِمْtheir backsوَ اشْتَرَوْاand they exchangedبِهٖ[with] itثَمَنًا(for) a priceقَلِیْلًا ؕlittleفَبِئْسَAnd wretchedمَا(is) whatیَشْتَرُوْنَ they purchase

Translation of Verse 181-187

181. Indeed, Allah has heard those ˹among the Jews˺ who said, "Allah is poor; we are rich!" We have certainly recorded their slurs and their killing of prophets unjustly. Then We will say, "Taste the torment of burning!

182. This is ˹the reward˺ for what your hands have done. And Allah is never unjust to ˹His˺ creation."

183. Those ˹are the same people˺ who say, "Allah has commanded us not to believe in any messenger unless he brings us an offering to be consumed by fire ˹from the sky˺." Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ "Other prophets did in fact come to you ¹⁶⁵ before me with clear proofs and ˹even˺ what you demanded-why then did you kill them, if what you say is true?"

184. If you are rejected by them, so too were messengers before you who came with clear proofs, divine Books, and enlightening Scriptures. ¹⁶⁶

185. Every soul will taste death. And you will only receive your full reward on the Day of Judgment. Whoever is spared from the Fire and is admitted into Paradise will ˹indeed˺ triumph, whereas the life of this world is no more than the delusion of enjoyment.

186. You ˹believers˺ will surely be tested in your wealth and yourselves, ¹⁶⁷ and you will certainly hear many hurtful words from those who were given the Scripture before you and ˹from˺ the polytheists. But if you are patient and mindful ˹of Allah˺-surely this is a resolve to aspire to.

187. ˹Remember, O Prophet,˺ when Allah took the covenant of those who were given the Scripture to make it known to people and not hide it, yet they cast it behind their backs and traded it for a fleeting gain. What a miserable profit!

Commentary

165. i.e., your forefathers.

166. i.e., the original Torah of Moses and the Gospel of Jesus.

167. Meaning, a believer is always tested through the loss of wealth as well as sickness, injuries, and the loss of life.
