Quran Text of Verse 20-26وَ اِذْAnd whenقَالَsaidمُوْسٰیMusaلِقَوْمِهٖto his peopleیٰقَوْمِO my peopleاذْكُرُوْاrememberنِعْمَةَ(the) Favorاللّٰهِ(of) Allahعَلَیْكُمْupon youاِذْwhenجَعَلَHe placedفِیْكُمْamong youاَنْۢبِیَآءَProphetsوَ جَعَلَكُمْand made youمُّلُوْكًا ۖۗkingsوَّ اٰتٰىكُمْand He gave youمَّاwhatلَمْnotیُؤْتِHe (had) givenاَحَدًا(to) anyoneمِّنَfromالْعٰلَمِیْنَ the worlds یٰقَوْمِO my peopleادْخُلُواEnterالْاَرْضَthe landالْمُقَدَّسَةَthe Holyالَّتِیْwhichكَتَبَ(has been) ordainedاللّٰهُ(by) Allahلَكُمْfor youوَ لَاand (do) notتَرْتَدُّوْاturnعَلٰۤیonاَدْبَارِكُمْyour backsفَتَنْقَلِبُوْاthen you will turn backخٰسِرِیْنَ (as) losers قَالُوْاThey saidیٰمُوْسٰۤیO Musa!اِنَّIndeedفِیْهَاin itقَوْمًا(are) peopleجَبَّارِیْنَ ۖۗ(of) tyrannical strengthوَ اِنَّاand indeed weلَنْneverنَّدْخُلَهَاwill enter itحَتّٰیuntilیَخْرُجُوْاthey leaveمِنْهَا ۚfrom itفَاِنْand ifیَّخْرُجُوْاthey leaveمِنْهَا[from] itفَاِنَّاthen certainly we (will)دٰخِلُوْنَ enter (it) قَالَSaidرَجُلٰنِtwo menمِنَfromالَّذِیْنَthose whoیَخَافُوْنَfeared (Allah)اَنْعَمَ(had) favoredاللّٰهُAllahعَلَیْهِمَا[on] both of themادْخُلُوْاEnterعَلَیْهِمُupon themالْبَابَ ۚ(through) the gateفَاِذَاthen whenدَخَلْتُمُوْهُyou have entered itفَاِنَّكُمْthen indeed, you (will be)غٰلِبُوْنَ ۚ۬victoriousوَ عَلَیAnd uponاللّٰهِAllahفَتَوَكَّلُوْۤاthen put your trustاِنْifكُنْتُمْyou areمُّؤْمِنِیْنَ believers 5. Al-Ma'idah Page 112قَالُوْاThey saidیٰمُوْسٰۤیO MusaاِنَّاIndeed, weلَنْneverنَّدْخُلَهَاۤwill enter itاَبَدًاeverمَّاforدَامُوْاas long as they areفِیْهَاin itفَاذْهَبْSo goاَنْتَyouوَ رَبُّكَand your Lordفَقَاتِلَاۤand you both fightاِنَّاIndeed, weهٰهُنَاare [here]قٰعِدُوْنَ sitting قَالَHe saidرَبِّO my LordاِنِّیْIndeed, Iلَاۤ(do) notاَمْلِكُ(have) powerاِلَّاexceptنَفْسِیْ(over) myselfوَ اَخِیْand my brotherفَافْرُقْso (make a) separationبَیْنَنَاbetween usوَ بَیْنَand betweenالْقَوْمِthe peopleالْفٰسِقِیْنَ (the) defiantly disobedient قَالَ(Allah) saidفَاِنَّهَاThen indeed itمُحَرَّمَةٌ(will be) forbiddenعَلَیْهِمْto themاَرْبَعِیْنَ(for) fortyسَنَةً ۚyearsیَتِیْهُوْنَthey will wanderفِیinالْاَرْضِ ؕthe earthفَلَاSo (do) notتَاْسَgrieveعَلَیoverالْقَوْمِthe peopleالْفٰسِقِیْنَ۠the defiantly disobedient

Translation of Verse 20-26

20. And ˹remember˺ when Moses said to his people, "O my people! Remember Allah's favours upon you when He raised prophets from among you, made you sovereign, ²⁴⁴ and gave you what He had never given anyone in the world. ²⁴⁵

21. O my people! Enter the Holy Land which Allah has destined for you ˹to enter˺. And do not turn back or else you will become losers."

22. They replied, "O Moses! There is an enormously powerful people there, so we will never ˹be able to˺ enter it until they leave. If they do, then we will enter!"

23. Two God-fearing men-who had been blessed by Allah- said, "Surprise them through the gate. If you do, you will certainly prevail. Put your trust in Allah if you are ˹truly˺ believers."

24. ˹Yet˺ they said, "O Moses! ˹Still˺ we will never enter as long as they remain there. So go-both you and your Lord-and fight; we are staying right here!"

25. Moses pleaded, "My Lord! I have no control over anyone except myself and my brother. So set us apart from the rebellious people."

26. Allah replied, "Then this land is forbidden to them for forty years, during which they will wander through the land. So do not grieve for the rebellious people."

Commentary

244. He rescued you from Egypt where the Pharaoh treated you like slaves and blessed you with freedom so you can manage your own affairs.

245. i.e., the miracles of splitting the sea, water coming out of the rock, manna and quails, and clouds shading them.
