Quran Text of Verse 122-129اَوَ مَنْIs (one) whoكَانَwasمَیْتًاdeadفَاَحْیَیْنٰهُand We gave him lifeوَ جَعَلْنَاand We madeلَهٗfor himنُوْرًاlightیَّمْشِیْhe walksبِهٖwherebyفِیamongالنَّاسِthe peopleكَمَنْlike (one) whoمَّثَلُهٗ[similar to him]فِی(is) inالظُّلُمٰتِthe darknessesلَیْسَnotبِخَارِجٍhe comes outمِّنْهَا ؕof itكَذٰلِكَThusزُیِّنَis made fair-seemingلِلْكٰفِرِیْنَto the disbelieversمَاwhatكَانُوْاthey wereیَعْمَلُوْنَ doing وَ كَذٰلِكَAnd thusجَعَلْنَاWe placedفِیْinكُلِّeveryقَرْیَةٍcityاَكٰبِرَgreatestمُجْرِمِیْهَا(of) its criminalsلِیَمْكُرُوْاso that they plotفِیْهَا ؕthereinوَ مَاAnd notیَمْكُرُوْنَthey plotاِلَّاexceptبِاَنْفُسِهِمْagainst themselvesوَ مَاand notیَشْعُرُوْنَ they perceive وَ اِذَاAnd whenجَآءَتْهُمْcomes to themاٰیَةٌa Signقَالُوْاthey sayلَنْNeverنُّؤْمِنَwe will believeحَتّٰیuntilنُؤْتٰیwe are givenمِثْلَlikeمَاۤwhatاُوْتِیَwas givenرُسُلُ(to the) Messengersاللّٰهِ ؔۘؕ(of) AllahاَللّٰهُAllahاَعْلَمُknows bestحَیْثُwhereیَجْعَلُHe placesرِسَالَتَهٗ ؕHis MessageسَیُصِیْبُWill afflictالَّذِیْنَthose whoاَجْرَمُوْاcommitted crimesصَغَارٌa humiliationعِنْدَfromاللّٰهِAllahوَ عَذَابٌand a punishmentشَدِیْدٌۢsevereبِمَاfor whatكَانُوْاthey used toیَمْكُرُوْنَ plot 6. Al-An'am Page 144فَمَنْSo whoeverیُّرِدِwantsاللّٰهُAllahاَنْthatیَّهْدِیَهٗHe guides himیَشْرَحْHe expandsصَدْرَهٗhis breastلِلْاِسْلَامِ ۚto Islamوَ مَنْand whoeverیُّرِدْHe wantsاَنْthatیُّضِلَّهٗHe lets him go astrayیَجْعَلْHe makesصَدْرَهٗhis breastضَیِّقًاtightحَرَجًاand constrictedكَاَنَّمَاas thoughیَصَّعَّدُhe (were) climbingفِیintoالسَّمَآءِ ؕthe skyكَذٰلِكَThusیَجْعَلُplacesاللّٰهُAllahالرِّجْسَthe filthعَلَیonالَّذِیْنَthose whoلَا(do) notیُؤْمِنُوْنَ believe وَ هٰذَاAnd thisصِرَاطُ(is the) wayرَبِّكَ(of) your Lordمُسْتَقِیْمًا ؕstraightقَدْCertainlyفَصَّلْنَاWe have detailedالْاٰیٰتِthe Versesلِقَوْمٍfor a peopleیَّذَّكَّرُوْنَ who take heed لَهُمْFor themدَارُ(will be) homeالسَّلٰمِ(of) [the] peaceعِنْدَwithرَبِّهِمْtheir Lordوَ هُوَAnd Heوَلِیُّهُمْ(will be) their protecting friendبِمَاbecauseكَانُوْا(of what) they used toیَعْمَلُوْنَ do وَ یَوْمَAnd (the) DayیَحْشُرُهُمْHe will gather themجَمِیْعًا ۚallیٰمَعْشَرَ(and will say) O assemblyالْجِنِّ(of) [the] jinnقَدِCertainlyاسْتَكْثَرْتُمْyou have (misled) manyمِّنَofالْاِنْسِ ۚthe mankindوَ قَالَAnd will sayاَوْلِیٰٓؤُهُمْtheir friendsمِّنَamongالْاِنْسِthe menرَبَّنَاOur Lordاسْتَمْتَعَprofitedبَعْضُنَاsome of usبِبَعْضٍby othersوَّ بَلَغْنَاۤand we have reachedاَجَلَنَاour termالَّذِیْۤwhichاَجَّلْتَYou appointedلَنَا ؕfor usقَالَHe will sayالنَّارُThe Fireمَثْوٰىكُمْ(is) your abodeخٰلِدِیْنَwill abide foreverفِیْهَاۤin itاِلَّاexceptمَا(for) whatشَآءَwillsاللّٰهُ ؕAllahاِنَّIndeedرَبَّكَyour Lordحَكِیْمٌ(is) All-Wiseعَلِیْمٌ All-Knowing وَ كَذٰلِكَAnd thusنُوَلِّیْWe make friendsبَعْضَsome (of)الظّٰلِمِیْنَthe wrongdoersبَعْضًۢا(to) othersبِمَاfor whatكَانُوْاthey used toیَكْسِبُوْنَ۠earn

Translation of Verse 122-129

122. Can those who had been dead, to whom We gave life and a light with which they can walk among people, be compared to those in complete darkness from which they can never emerge? ²⁹³ That is how the misdeeds of the disbelievers have been made appealing to them.

123. And so We have placed in every society the most wicked to conspire in it. Yet they plot only against themselves, but they fail to perceive it.

124. Whenever a sign comes to them, they say, "We will never believe until we receive what Allah's messengers received." Allah knows best where to place His message. The wicked will soon be overwhelmed by humiliation from Allah and a severe punishment for their evil plots.

125. Whoever Allah wills to guide, He opens their heart to Islam. ²⁹⁴ But whoever He wills to leave astray, He makes their chest tight and constricted as if they were climbing up into the sky. This is how Allah dooms those who disbelieve.

126. That is your Lord's Path- perfectly straight. We have already made the signs clear to those who are mindful.

127. They will have the Home of Peace with their Lord, Who will be their Guardian because of what they used to do.

128. ˹Consider˺ the Day He will gather them ˹all˺ together and say, "O assembly of jinn! You misled humans in great numbers." And their human associates will say, "Our Lord! We benefited from each other's company, ²⁹⁵ but now we have reached the term which You appointed for us." ˹Then˺ He will say, "The Fire is your home, yours to stay in forever, except whoever Allah wills to spare." ²⁹⁶ Surely your Lord is All-Wise, All-Knowing.

129. This is how We make the wrongdoers ˹destructive˺ allies of one another because of their misdeeds.

Commentary

293. The Quran often compares disbelief to death and blindness whereas belief is compared to life and the ability to see.

294. Islam literally means 'submission to the Will of Allah.'

295. For example, the jinn helped humans with magic, while the jinn had a feeling of importance when they had a human following.

296. i.e., disobedient Muslims. They will be punished according to the severity of their sins, but eventually no Muslim will stay in Hell forever.
