Quran Text of Verse 142-152اِنَّIndeedالْمُنٰفِقِیْنَthe hypocritesیُخٰدِعُوْنَ(seek to) deceiveاللّٰهَAllahوَ هُوَand (it is) Heخَادِعُهُمْ ۚwho deceives themوَ اِذَاAnd whenقَامُوْۤاthey standاِلَیforالصَّلٰوةِthe prayerقَامُوْاthey standكُسَالٰی ۙlazilyیُرَآءُوْنَshowing offالنَّاسَ(to) the peopleوَ لَاand notیَذْكُرُوْنَthey rememberاللّٰهَAllahاِلَّاexceptقَلِیْلًاؗۙa little مُّذَبْذَبِیْنَWaveringبَیْنَbetweenذٰلِكَ ۖۗthatلَاۤnotاِلٰیtoهٰۤؤُلَآءِtheseوَ لَاۤand notاِلٰیtoهٰۤؤُلَآءِ ؕthoseوَ مَنْAnd whoeverیُّضْلِلِhas been lead astrayاللّٰهُ(by) Allahفَلَنْthen neverتَجِدَyou will findلَهٗfor himسَبِیْلًا a way یٰۤاَیُّهَاO youالَّذِیْنَwhoاٰمَنُوْاbelieve[d]لَا(Do) notتَتَّخِذُواtakeالْكٰفِرِیْنَthe disbelieversاَوْلِیَآءَ(as) alliesمِنْfromدُوْنِinstead ofالْمُؤْمِنِیْنَ ؕthe believersاَتُرِیْدُوْنَDo you wishاَنْthatتَجْعَلُوْاyou makeلِلّٰهِfor Allahعَلَیْكُمْagainst youسُلْطٰنًاan evidenceمُّبِیْنًا clear اِنَّIndeedالْمُنٰفِقِیْنَthe hypocritesفِی(will be) inالدَّرْكِthe depthsالْاَسْفَلِthe lowestمِنَofالنَّارِ ۚthe Fireوَ لَنْand neverتَجِدَyou will findلَهُمْfor themنَصِیْرًاۙany helper اِلَّاExceptالَّذِیْنَthose whoتَابُوْاrepentوَ اَصْلَحُوْاand correct (themselves)وَ اعْتَصَمُوْاand hold fastبِاللّٰهِto Allahوَ اَخْلَصُوْاand are sincereدِیْنَهُمْ(in) their religionلِلّٰهِfor Allahفَاُولٰٓىِٕكَthen those (will be)مَعَwithالْمُؤْمِنِیْنَ ؕthe believersوَ سَوْفَAnd soonیُؤْتِwill be givenاللّٰهُ(by) Allahالْمُؤْمِنِیْنَthe believersاَجْرًاa rewardعَظِیْمًا great مَاWhatیَفْعَلُwould doاللّٰهُAllahبِعَذَابِكُمْby punishing youاِنْifشَكَرْتُمْyou are gratefulوَ اٰمَنْتُمْ ؕand you believeوَ كَانَAnd isاللّٰهُAllahشَاكِرًاAll-Appreciativeعَلِیْمًا All-Knowing 4. An-Nisa Page 102لَا(Does) notیُحِبُّloveاللّٰهُAllahالْجَهْرَthe public mentionبِالسُّوْٓءِof [the] evilمِنَ[of]الْقَوْلِ[the] wordsاِلَّاexceptمَنْ(by the one) whoظُلِمَ ؕhas been wrongedوَ كَانَAnd isاللّٰهُAllahسَمِیْعًاAll-Hearingعَلِیْمًا All-Knowing اِنْIfتُبْدُوْاyou discloseخَیْرًاa goodاَوْorتُخْفُوْهُyou conceal itاَوْorتَعْفُوْاpardonعَنْ[of]سُوْٓءٍan evilفَاِنَّthen indeedاللّٰهَAllahكَانَisعَفُوًّاOft-Pardoningقَدِیْرًا All-Powerful اِنَّIndeedالَّذِیْنَthose whoیَكْفُرُوْنَdisbelieveبِاللّٰهِin Allahوَ رُسُلِهٖand His Messengersوَ یُرِیْدُوْنَand they wishاَنْthatیُّفَرِّقُوْاthey differentiateبَیْنَbetweenاللّٰهِAllahوَ رُسُلِهٖand His Messengersوَ یَقُوْلُوْنَand they sayنُؤْمِنُWe believeبِبَعْضٍin someوَّ نَكْفُرُand we disbelieveبِبَعْضٍ ۙin othersوَّ یُرِیْدُوْنَAnd they wishاَنْthatیَّتَّخِذُوْاthey takeبَیْنَbetweenذٰلِكَthatسَبِیْلًۙاa way اُولٰٓىِٕكَThoseهُمُtheyالْكٰفِرُوْنَ(are) the disbelieversحَقًّا ۚtrulyوَ اَعْتَدْنَاAnd We have preparedلِلْكٰفِرِیْنَfor the disbelieversعَذَابًاa punishmentمُّهِیْنًا humiliating وَ الَّذِیْنَAnd those whoاٰمَنُوْاbelieveبِاللّٰهِin Allahوَ رُسُلِهٖand His Messengersوَ لَمْand notیُفَرِّقُوْاthey differentiateبَیْنَbetweenاَحَدٍ(any) oneمِّنْهُمْof themاُولٰٓىِٕكَthoseسَوْفَsoonیُؤْتِیْهِمْHe will give themاُجُوْرَهُمْ ؕtheir rewardوَ كَانَAnd isاللّٰهُAllahغَفُوْرًاOft-Forgivingرَّحِیْمًا۠Most Merciful

Translation of Verse 142-152

142. Surely the hypocrites seek to deceive Allah, but He outwits them. When they stand up for prayer, they do it half-heartedly only to be seen by people-hardly remembering Allah at all.

143. Torn between belief and disbelief-belonging neither to these ˹believers˺ nor those ˹disbelievers˺. And whoever Allah leaves to stray, you will never find for them a way.

144. O believers! Do not take disbelievers as allies instead of the believers. Would you like to give Allah solid proof against yourselves?

145. Surely the hypocrites will be in the lowest depths of the Fire- and you will never find for them any helper-

146. except those who repent, mend their ways, hold fast to Allah, and are sincere in their devotion to Allah; they will be with the believers. And Allah will grant the believers a great reward.

147. Why should Allah punish you if you are grateful and faithful? Allah is ever Appreciative, All-Knowing.

148. Allah does not like negative thoughts to be voiced-except by those who have been wronged. ²²⁹ Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.

149. Whether you reveal or conceal a good or pardon an evil-surely Allah is Ever-Pardoning, Most Capable.

150. Surely those who deny Allah and His messengers and wish to make a distinction between Allah and His messengers, ²³⁰ saying, "We believe in some and disbelieve in others," desiring to forge a compromise,

151. they are indeed the true disbelievers. And We have prepared for the disbelievers a humiliating punishment.

152. As for those who believe in Allah and His messengers-accepting all; rejecting none-He will surely give them their rewards. And Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

Commentary

229. i.e., Allah does not like talking about people behind their backs- except when someone who has been wronged seeks counselling or assistance from authorities.

230. By their claim that they believe in Allah but still reject some of His messengers.
