Quran Text of Verse 40-47اِنَّIndeedالَّذِیْنَthose whoكَذَّبُوْاdeniedبِاٰیٰتِنَاOur Versesوَ اسْتَكْبَرُوْاand (were) arrogantعَنْهَاtowards themلَا(will) notتُفَتَّحُbe openedلَهُمْfor themاَبْوَابُ(the) doorsالسَّمَآءِ(of) the heavenوَ لَاand notیَدْخُلُوْنَthey will enterالْجَنَّةَParadiseحَتّٰیuntilیَلِجَpassesالْجَمَلُthe camelفِیْthroughسَمِّ(the) eyeالْخِیَاطِ ؕ(of) the needleوَ كَذٰلِكَAnd thusنَجْزِیWe recompenseالْمُجْرِمِیْنَ the criminals لَهُمْFor themمِّنْofجَهَنَّمَ(the) Hellمِهَادٌ(is) a bedوَّ مِنْand fromفَوْقِهِمْover themغَوَاشٍ ؕcoveringsوَ كَذٰلِكَAnd thusنَجْزِیWe recompenseالظّٰلِمِیْنَ the wrongdoers وَ الَّذِیْنَBut those whoاٰمَنُوْاbelieveوَ عَمِلُواand doالصّٰلِحٰتِ[the] righteous deedsلَاnotنُكَلِّفُWe burdenنَفْسًاany soulاِلَّاexceptوُسْعَهَاۤ ؗ(to) its capacityاُولٰٓىِٕكَThoseاَصْحٰبُ(are the) companionsالْجَنَّةِ ۚ(of) Paradiseهُمْtheyفِیْهَاin itخٰلِدُوْنَ (will) abide forever وَ نَزَعْنَاAnd We will removeمَاwhateverفِیْ(is) inصُدُوْرِهِمْtheir breastsمِّنْofغِلٍّmaliceتَجْرِیْFlowsمِنْfromتَحْتِهِمُunderneath themالْاَنْهٰرُ ۚthe riversوَ قَالُواAnd they will sayالْحَمْدُAll the praiseلِلّٰهِ(is) for Allahالَّذِیْthe One Whoهَدٰىنَاguided usلِهٰذَا ۫to thisوَ مَاand notكُنَّاwe wereلِنَهْتَدِیَto receive guidanceلَوْ لَاۤif notاَنْ[that]هَدٰىنَا(had) guided usاللّٰهُ ۚAllahلَقَدْCertainlyجَآءَتْcameرُسُلُMessengersرَبِّنَا(of) our Lordبِالْحَقِّ ؕwith the truthوَ نُوْدُوْۤاAnd they will be addressedاَنْ[that]تِلْكُمُThisالْجَنَّةُ(is) Paradiseاُوْرِثْتُمُوْهَاyou have been made to inherit itبِمَاfor whatكُنْتُمْyou used toتَعْمَلُوْنَ do 7. Al-A'raf Page 156وَ نَادٰۤیAnd will call outاَصْحٰبُ(the) companionsالْجَنَّةِ(of) Paradiseاَصْحٰبَ(to the) companionsالنَّارِ(of) the FireاَنْthatقَدْIndeedوَجَدْنَاwe foundمَاwhatوَعَدَنَا(had) promised usرَبُّنَاour LordحَقًّاtrueفَهَلْSo haveوَجَدْتُّمْyou foundمَّاwhatوَعَدَ(was) promisedرَبُّكُمْ(by) your Lordحَقًّا ؕ(to be) trueقَالُوْاThey will sayنَعَمْ ۚYesفَاَذَّنَThen will announceمُؤَذِّنٌۢan announcerبَیْنَهُمْamong themاَنْ[that]لَّعْنَةُ(The) curseاللّٰهِ(of) Allahعَلَی(is) onالظّٰلِمِیْنَۙthe wrongdoers الَّذِیْنَThose whoیَصُدُّوْنَhinderعَنْfromسَبِیْلِ(the) wayاللّٰهِ(of) Allahوَ یَبْغُوْنَهَاand seek in itعِوَجًا ۚcrookednessوَ هُمْwhile they (are)بِالْاٰخِرَةِconcerning the Hereafterكٰفِرُوْنَۘdisbelievers وَ بَیْنَهُمَاAnd between themحِجَابٌ ۚ(will be) a partitionوَ عَلَیand onالْاَعْرَافِthe heightsرِجَالٌ(will be) menیَّعْرِفُوْنَrecognizingكُلًّۢاallبِسِیْمٰىهُمْ ۚby their marksوَ نَادَوْاAnd they will call outاَصْحٰبَ(to the) companionsالْجَنَّةِ(of) ParadiseاَنْthatسَلٰمٌPeaceعَلَیْكُمْ ۫(be) upon youلَمْNotیَدْخُلُوْهَاthey have entered itوَ هُمْbut theyیَطْمَعُوْنَ hope وَ اِذَاAnd whenصُرِفَتْare turnedاَبْصَارُهُمْtheir eyesتِلْقَآءَtowardsاَصْحٰبِ(the) companionsالنَّارِ ۙ(of) the Fireقَالُوْاthey (will) sayرَبَّنَاOur Lord!لَا(Do) notتَجْعَلْنَاplace usمَعَwithالْقَوْمِthe peopleالظّٰلِمِیْنَ۠the wrongdoers

Translation of Verse 40-47

40. Surely those who receive our revelations with denial and arrogance, the gates of heaven will not be opened for them, nor will they enter Paradise until a camel passes through the eye of a needle. This is how We reward the wicked.

41. Hell will be their bed; flames will be their cover. This is how We reward the wrongdoers.

42. As for those who believe and do good-We never require of any soul more than what it can afford-it is they who will be the residents of Paradise. They will be there forever.

43. We will remove whatever bitterness they had in their hearts. ³¹³ Rivers will flow under their feet. And they will say, "Praise be to Allah for guiding us to this. We would have never been guided if Allah had not guided us. The messengers of our Lord had certainly come with the truth." It will be announced to them, "This is Paradise awarded to you for what you used to do."

44. The residents of Paradise will call out to the residents of the Fire, "We have certainly found our Lord's promise to be true. Have you too found your Lord's promise to be true?" They will reply, "Yes, we have!" Then a caller will announce to both, "May Allah's condemnation be upon the wrongdoers,

45. those who hindered ˹others˺ from Allah's Way, strived to make it ˹appear˺ crooked, and disbelieved in the Hereafter."

46. There will be a barrier between Paradise and Hell. And on the heights ˹of that barrier˺ will be people ³¹⁵ who will recognize ˹the residents of˺ both by their appearance. ³¹⁶ They will call out to the residents of Paradise, "Peace be upon you!" They will have not yet entered Paradise, but eagerly hope to.

47. When their eyes will turn towards the residents of Hell, they will pray, "Our Lord! Do not join us with the wrongdoing people."

Commentary

313. i.e., the bitterness they had in their hearts towards other believers who wronged them in the worldly life.

314. This is a group of people whose good deeds equal their bad deeds, so they will be held on the heights separating Paradise and Hellfire until their judgment is settled.

315. Although the word " rijâl " generally means "men," some Quran commentators believe that the word " rijâl " here can also mean "people," but they are called men since men make up the majority in the group. In some Arabic dialects, " rijâl " is the plural of " rajul " (man) and " rajulah " (woman).

316. The faces of the residents of Paradise will be bright, whereas those of the residents of Hell will be gloomy.
